then you = blind
take a look at the newegg user ratings for each of them
and take a look at the hard drives themselves
ive never had a seagate f**k up on me (have 3 of them now), but I have had maxtors f**k up on me multiple times
not to mention that seagate hard drives are wicked quiet, and maxtors aren't
and a seagate hard drive 160g or below will use only 1 platter, maxtor uses at least 2 .. the difference is that seagate can engineer a disk to store that much on 1 platter .. in other words, seagate can manufacture a better product (1 platter cuts down any potential failure rate in half)
anyway .. yeah

See I use the same method as you do. My luck has just went the other way.
Never had a Maxtor f**k up on me. Had many seagates f**k up on me (jesus christ all of their scsi drives make me want to light kittens on fire)
Either way I hate Western Digital.
