Hey all,
Started playing SoF and I already have a lvl 20 Healer (Nuker Build). I started out with a Swordman, hoping to discover a diamond in the rough but it turned out to be anything but. (havent played Spear/Blade/Bow).
I usually go for the odd class, the class that most ppl avoid because in most games thats only because most players just dont want the challange or dont know how to play the class correctly. But in Scions of Fate, Swordman is simply awefull.
From the 3 Melee classes (Spear/Sword/Blade) Spear is the DD, and Blade is the Tank.. so you Know what you're getting. With the spear you know you'll be dishing out a high DPS but you'll be out fast. With Blade you know you'll have staying power.
But with Swordman... he is average/weak at all things... His DPS is low and and his HP is even Lower. Without being a Pot w***e the Swordman is unable to fight more than 2 mobs of 2 levels higher (not at the same time) before having to meditate (regen)... that is if you land every hit and toss in a few crits.
Pots are slightly expensive and if you choose that route you'll find yourself broke very quickly. I got up to lvl 11 did the class change quest and had to admit defeat.
I understand that Swordman is one of the better PvPer Classes (but Im really Not interested in PvP in a game where it isnt open PvP... the whole "request duel" is sad and not for me.)
So I started a Healer with the intention of being a Nuker (completely possible) and while you probably wont surpass the Dmg that Bowmen deal you are definatly one of the better classes. The reason is simple. You can heal yourself and you Kite. The Chi (mana) you lose per cast is no where Near the HP you lose when hit by a mob, so while the Tank (Blade) can kill maybe 3-5 mobs before having to regen (im being generous)
The Healer/Nuker can take out about 6-8 mobs before his Chi is gone.. and if played right your HP stays full all the time.
"Same with Bowman" you say? No.. While Bowmen shouldnt lose HP (cuz they should be Kiting) they need to buy Arrows. and as cheap as they may be.. simply regening doesnt help. It costs money to be a Bowman. But they certainly make up for it with Crazy Dmg.
Playing the Healer on the other hand, which you will find yourself doing quite often since lvling without a party after lvl 20 is almost out of the question, can be quite expensive if you are the only healer in the party (Tip: Dont Be ) Especially if you are teamed up with a lot of Spear/Swordmen that happen to be gung ho! Your Chi will quickly disappear and meditating is almost out of the question since your team mates will certainly die.
The best Party setup IMO is 2-3 blades (who tank) 2 healers and the rest are Bowmen who keep their distance. That way the healers can focus on the Blades and alternate meding and potting while the Bowmen dish out the uber dmg.
Another tip for all you Healers out there is: When in a party with more than 1 healer. Make SURE you divide the party between the healers. Assign specific players to each healer. That way there is no Double Healing (waste of Chi) and you KNOW you're covered. No need to guess "is he gonna heal? should I? aww Sht! I thought he was healing!!!"
When one of you needs to Meditate, the other covers and visa versa. (Important! Make sure that you are not in charge of healing yourself!!! When in a party your eyes are fixed on the party status bar and Not on your own HP bar.. You can quickly find yourself dead without even noticing that damned black bear chomping away at you because you were in charge of healing yourself.
Play smart and if you're a healer... Insist on "Round Robin" party drops or you will get Nothing
What do you all think?
