SCI FI Channel has ordered new seasons of its hit original series, Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis. Production on both 20-episode seasons is slated to begin in early 2006 for summer premieres on SCI FI.

Heading into an incredible tenth original season, Stargate SG-1 is now the longest-running sci-fi drama in American television history, outlasting The X-Files, The Twilight Zone and every iteration of "Star Trek". And the series is stronger than ever. The first half of "SG-1"'s ninth season has averaged 2.4 million viewers per week.

Stargate Atlantis, cable television's first successful drama spin-off, has been renewed for its third original season. A pulse-pounding action adventure, "Atlantis" took the original premise of Stargate -- instantaneous travel to different worlds through an ancient portal -- and introduced a brand new team and sinister new enemies that pose a threat to humankind throughout the universe. A bona fide hit, the show has averaged over 2.3 million viewers a week for the first half of its sophomore season.

"SG-1" co-creator Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper will return as executive producers on both series.

Stargate SG-1 is produced by Double Secret Productions, in association with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. and Sony Pictures Television. Stargate Atlantis is produced by Acme Shark, in association with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. and Sony Pictures Television.

The one-two punch of the 'Stargates,' coupled with the critically-acclaimed Battlestar Galactica, have made SCI FI Channel cable's #1 destination for young adults on Friday nights. New episodes of the entire 'SCI FI Friday' lineup will return to SCI FI in January 2006.

I'm on the fence really.
Stargate at least seasons 1-8 where amazing.
Atlantis so far has kept my interest and hasn't bored me.

Stargate SG-1 seasons 9 has the odd feeling for me of being Fargate...
Having both stars from farscape in it and being a fan of that series really diminished it's impact.

The show was RDA and the team. If they can't bring those back i would stil watch it simply because some episodes are REALLY good, but i would not be to sad to see it go.

It's def still one of those shows i can watch withotu feeling gipped or wasting my time.

I dont like the chick from farscape being on there, but the guy actually plays a pretty good younger O'Neill. The first half of the season was kinda lame, too much char developement, and dumb shit with that chick. BUT if they close the season out well with their new foe, it will be good. In all honesty i was looking forward to atlantis and bsg than stargate after the first few episodes.

I have a feeling they are gonna bring her back, though:(
That's why they had her "disappear" in the way she did...they left it open for her return.

from what i read she was only gonna be in a few episodes and that was it.

She might come back for a few episodes here and there but i doubt it will be a leading role unless amanda tappings quits

Vala will be back for the end of the season, something about she is somehow pregnant (like the priors did it maybe?). So she will probably be in the first few episodes of next season to resolve that issue.

One of the producers said that he thought all members would be eager to return before they announced the renewal. I don't see them getting rid of Amana Tapping, or anyone else. So the most Vala could be is a short story arc with maybe a rare guest appearance, like Teal'c's son/former master.

The stories for the second part of both seasons look really good, I kinda agree with the first part of season 9 being a little too background heavy and I am also in the minority that I don't like Vala.

This is a good fan site for the show with a Q&A area for the stunt co-ordinator for Atlantis and a producer of the show. www.gateworld.net

Vala is probably the worst thing to ever happen to Stargate, besides RDA leaving. It really sucks without Hammond around anymore either.

I liked it a lot more when it covered the Egyptian stuff, the Ori just aren't as interesting. They need more personality to them. Same with the Wraith in SGA. The enemies now are too generic. Season 3-5 was probably the best run they had.

Since they eliminated the majority of the g'ould, they tried to pick the next bad guy to be one of the most interesting things on the show, The Ancients. The story line fits, it will be nice when its not just a prior reaking havoc and we get to see more of them. The same thing happened with Apophis, it was a little lame till we met everyone else, then it got interesting. I really hope that we get some more Thor time too, i like the little aliens.
