So I posted last week about going down to San Diego for a job interview ... which will be tomorrow by the way, if anyone wants to party let me know I'll be staying in Temecula (about 60 miles from SD) .. anyways.. this week I got a call from Google (again) and have an interview with them next week (which is farther then I got last time) So assuming salaries are comparable for the area (lets say I get an offer from google for 100k) for those in the area would you prefer SD or SF?

SF is a better city, even with all the freaks.

My brother lives up in San Diego, I go and visit every now and then. It's absolutely beautiful (well most of Cali is). I have alot of fun every time I go. Infact I almost moved up there this last summer, but it didn't end up working out. Good parties, hot women, beautiful beach. What more could you ask for?

After I get out of basic training i'm going to try to get stationed in SD.

SAN DIEGO

I was in Temecula two weeks ago for a wedding, and San Diego was awesome, especially by the campus.

San Francisco has its ups and downs (I hope they'll be paying you a lot), but the weather can be a bummer. Ask that gay guy that posts here about his cat every so often. He might have some info.

f**k SF. It is cloudy and foggy every single day. You will pay about the same to live in both cities, so why not pick the one that has USABLE beaches, nice weather, and no f*g infestation?

i've lived/worked in both area's and SD totally owns SF. SF is more east coast style. temecula is really f*****g far from SD, but thats where the wine country is also which is cool.

head down to OB and PB while you're in town if its on a weekend. Also check out north costal carlsbad and encinitas. Encinitas D street beach has the hottest f*****g women in the world.

I enjoyed sf but it sucks compared to SD.

im from SD, went to college at UCSD and if i ever moved back to the states the only place Id live is SF. SD is prety, sure, but everyone and their third world cousin is moving there, rents are reeeeeeediculous, and you are forced to have a car because public transportation is nonexistant. SF owns it harcore.

most of my friends inthe bay area dont have cars and get around fine on bart, muni and trams. the rents are comporable in both places, but SF has a big city feelt whereas SD is pretty tame and the nightlife is kinda boring.

guess you didn't hang out around pb or ob Wink

SF is more of a clubby big city nightlife and SD is more of outdoors, house party type place.

i mean sure they are both great cities, but it depends on what you're looking for. he seems pretty stoked to be in SD and thats cool, if you're excited about a place you usually really enjoy it.

San Francisco hands down. I can't stand the vast majority of San Diego. The baches are great, but not enough to keep me down there.

Who said San Diego doesn't have a f*g infestation? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

x2.

I like to think of San Diego as the place where all the kiddies go to grow up and get the partying out of their system. When they're ready to live in a decent city, they come to San Francisco.

Let me tell you something about SF. It's a pretty old city by west coast standards. Sure the rent is kinda hairy sometimes but it's not THAT bad. If you wanna rent in the city you have to be prepared to look and you have to be prepared to not give up or settle for something in the first week. I guarantee you if you look you will find something that works for you.

I know nothing about the rent in SD so I can't tell you if it's better or worse.

As for weather. It's not rainy and foggy here every single day that's pure horseshit. We have a longer wet season than the rest of the state but this isn't f*****g Seattle.

I'd also like to mention that as for the "f*g infestation" it exists in one place - the Castro. You stay out of the Castro and you've pretty much rid yourself of that crowd. They don't bother me and I rarely go to the Castro and I do just fine here. There's crime here like anywhere else but normally the people of the city tend to get along in ways that you don't see in many other big cities.

It's not like people come out to sing cumbaya in the streets or anything, but look at this way : SF is a 7x7 sq mi city. (Hard to believe but it's true). This place is smaller than Disneyworld But somehow about a million people live here and that forces people to come to terms with the fact that they have to get along with their neighbors or at least try, there isn't a whole lot of room for them to "spread out".

My vote would always be for San Francisco. I've never once regretted moving here and I would never, ever consider moving out unless my family situation demanded it.

(hint, hint : this sort of situation where my RP photo essay would come in handy Very Happy )

I might have to publish mine early so you get a good daily life snapshot of the place. It's an amazing city with a lot of amazing things to offer. And no, you won't need your car. Sell it and use the money for a deposit on an apartment.

My question.. where would you actually be working for Google? I didn't know Google was in SF, I would have guessed silicon valley. If it is Silicon Valley that sort of changes things. The thing that keep the SFBA community going is really BART. If BART goes there, it's considered SFBA. If it doesn't go there (like Marin or SV) then it's considered "Greater Bay Area" and anything in that category is kind of sketchy. If you give me a name I can probably give you more information about it. Sometimes recruiters in the San Jose area will play up jobs "close to San Francisco" on purpose hoping the allure of the area draws people here. What they don't tell you is that the SJ - SF commute is something not many people will *voluntarily* endure. San Jose .... now that's a freaky town.

Here's a map of BART

BART = Bay Area Rapid Transit. It's the lifeline that connects every point on this map which is far beyond the reach of San Francisco alone. If you look at this map you will see what I mean about communities being interconnected. It's basically a high speed (sort of) subway.

Wanna go to Berkeley? 5 bucks round trip (20 min each way)
Need to catch a flight to either Oakland or SFO? 6 and 4 bucks round trip, respectively. SFO was built around BART so you never have to get out and walk a single yard. You get off the train and get on a Disnyeland style tram and end up practically at your gate.

Hope this helps you out some. The San Francisco residents know and the San Francisco the rest of the world knows are two very different places.

If you're gonna be in Temecula, go wine tasting at the wineries ( wines are okay) , check out Tom's Farm and make sure you go to Pechanga Casino (Club Silk is the only nightlife in town). Temecula is boonies ville but it's good if you have a family and far more affordable that SF. If you're single and decide to live there, you may as well shoot yourself... =o

SF has a ton of everything. Based on the history of the place yes everyone thinks that SF is full of homos and asians. The reality of it is very different. There's a huge gap between the perception of a place and the reality of a place.

The only that coincides with the outside perspective of the city is that it's very, and I mean VERY liberal.

If you're single, SF > SD hands down. If you're married and have a family, SD is the place to be. You don't have a f*****g latino or black mayor controlling shit down there and the white supremists have all the power and it's last bastion of Republicanism in the state of California, other than Orange County. The suburbs are far more affordable than SF wear you can't even purchase a shoe box for under a million.
