All right, so I've been reading about all the rage of former Star Wars Online players, and all that noise that they're (still!) making seems to have been justified, if even half of what they claim is true. However, it's still a bit confusing, with all the acronyms and all that. Can someone give me the short version of all the patches and updates and expansions and the changes they've made to the game? It's for a non-gaming article I'm writing. Thanks.

No problem. First comes the original release, SWG: An Empire Divided. It was released in late 2003. Then came Jump to Lightspeed (JTL), an expansion about a year later. Then in 2005, two more expansions Rage of the Wookiees (RW) and Trials of Obi-Wan (TOW).
Those are the expansions. You shouldn't mistake them for patches, which did the real harm to the game – Combat Upgrade (CU), New Game Enhancement (NGE).Check out the wikipedia entry for more details.
