Old news, and who cares. 1vs1 and 2vs2 DM/teamDM > all other game modes
If you haven't tried it, its way more intense then boring 16player frag fests. Its almost the only way I'll play UT2k4 anymore.
Anything more then 4 wouldn't even feel right for a Doom title anyway. Ever played the original Doom on a lan with 3 of your buddies late into the night? The engine itself is not limited to 4 players however. Expect mods that are coming out for Doom3 to up the limit to 16/32players as normal (for you CTF fans etc..). Or just wait for Quake4 =P

Id rather shell out 50 bucks for a game that only supports 4 players but has content as opposed to shelling out 50 bucks for NCsofts contentless POS rpgs
If your internet connection sucks then yes it would lag. Anything can lag then ;p
Otherwise no, it would do the opposite as mulitiplayer would free up more CPU resources and actually be smoother. (CPU no longer has to compute the insane AI that Doom3 will have). id knows what they are doing and mulitiplayer games is one of the things they are known the best for. I'm pretty sure id isn't gonna put out a game that performs poorly in mulitiplayer.

Well, I meant with 16 players it would probably lag a bit, much like Battlefield does when you have 32 players in game. The more players, the more lag, I'd assume, since there is more to render. It didn't really matter how good my connection was on Battlefield when there were 32 players on a server, it was the frame lag that started crapping me down with a high volume of players..
The only way I remedied that was to upgrade comps...I assume Doom or any multiplayer game would work in a similar way (EQ anyone?

When games like BF2 are moving toward upwards of 100 simultaneous users online, it seems odd to me that Doom3 is being capped at 4.
And it's not that 4 player isn't better than 16 player (I dunno, I have my doubts) it's that you don't have that option. Also, the viability of internet servers will be small, 4 players at a time isn't all that stimulating against a bunch of people you don't know.
