Ive grabbed a load of files onto my linux server, what is the best way to transfer them to my pc? got flashfxp but not sure how or what settings to use.

You need to configure an FTP server on your box. VSFTPD is a pretty nice one and takes minimal amount of setup. Keep in mind the security factor though.
Disable anonymous login ang create a simple user account for the FTP. don't use the root account
