What made you remember that particular KS Zhack? There were so many, it had to have been special.

I still remember how we sat under the tree beneath the stars, talking about our hopes and dreams, and how you grabbed my hair and forced me to give you furious head. My mouth was bleeding. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night with a mouthful of blood, and I think, "Am I giving Tizitchy furious head right now? Am I?!"

What I miss is that there used to be a 'whos who' kinda thing complete with 'whos f*****g who' and 'who gave the clap to half the officers in the guild' and 'oh man my balls itch from having to shave them after f*****g soandso and she gave me crabs' and uh...you know the sense of community on Tarew Marr like an extended, incestuous (sp) family.
The gossip used to be priceless, now its just a game! OMG.

I browse these boards daily, reading about everything posted and I often think to myself how much a part of this I once was. This post isnt about me, its about all of us, who we were, we are, and what is to become of what we have built.
Has it really been 4 years? or almost that, since the older generation started playing? I think back to when I was "growing up" and remember Suriya and Dartaghan and a score of others running around allready in their 40s- and thought "one day ill be like them"
How much of that can we ask ourselves has been lost in the transition of time? Looking around, EQ isnt what it was all those years ago. Some say that its evolved, that its better, that its taken its natural course and so here we stand. How many time guilds are there now, ED, Awakened, Pak... maybe im missing one more. What we define "uber" now is having what full time gear? killing quarm?
Everquest used to be unbeatable in my eyes. No matter how high you went or what you did, look back to the original game and even kunark in the early days. There was still risk in the game, what you did mattered. Everything wasnt parsed and scripted down to a 8 line macro you bind to a key or two and watch tv while you hit the buttons. Look at the skill it used to take to be a cleric, an enchanter, a necromancer when what we had to work with was limited, we had to rely on ourselves, our skill and intelligence, and a bit of luck to get the raid or goal accomplished rather then some clicky items or knowing our 2600+ ac 9k buffed tank can shrug off mortal blows like raindrops with minimal healing.
Think back to fear and hate. What it was like to break these zones, the risk involved, but do you remember the adrenalin rushes? the euphoria you felt when you finally after 3-4 hours broke in and established yourselves? What it was like to stay up all night and at 7am kill cazic as the clock ticked down on respawn. What it was like to be one of the 6-7 people with a god item or drop, not some piece of equipment mass farmed every day at X time. What we have become is the ultimate question. People say instancing is a good thing, and yes to an extent I agree. Tarrew Marr is like the New York of everquest servers, were fiercely loyal to each other but we all like slitting each others throats at the first opportunity. I would say 85% of the server is 50+ and all scrambling for "things to do".
Wheres the challenge anymore? You fight in instanced zones that spit your corpses out at a convienient drop off point, recovery takes 10 minutes and your good to go again, while I wasnt an advocate of corpse rotting or failure, perhaps that edge was what drove us to achieve.
So many have come and gone from this game, some are still around in different forms. It is my feeling that EQ 2 will never measure up to what this experience has been. Each of us who has played for this long has truly become a part of the game. We have made it what it was, even though the world has seemed to evolve at sony's whim, our server is our own. It is what we made it.
I see an end of an era, perhaps we are getting too powerfull. 65th lvl with 500+ aas swings the power balance a bit too far. How much longer can we truly "advance" our charachters before we trivialize the entire game?
Then again, which one of us is really willing to give up 4 years of memories, trials, hardships and work to jump on the new bandwagon.
To all those who have come before, hats off to you for making this what it was and is.
To all those that came later, ask one of us old timers for a story sometime, you might enjoy it.
To the rest, it will be interesting to see what is to come.
