Posted: 06/06/05 - 13:33 Post subject: Realpoor Photo Essay 1 - Where do you live and why?
|
|
|
I was biking home this morning and I was remembering a conversation I had with a friend last night who currently lives in Ohio who was thinking of moving to SF since she got laid off and is pretty free to move wherever she wants to. She was asking what makes the city so appealing, so I thought that most people here live where they want to for one reason or another (with some exceptions) but that there must be things that make the place you live atteactive and comforting to live in.
So, I would ask that if you want to participate in the Realpoor Photo Essay, take a digital camera (or whatever - you can draw shit if you want) and take about 20-30 pictures of places in the city that are representative of everyday life. This means that I don't care if you live in the city with the Eiffel Tower in it - that's tourist trash. Take pictures of things like popular local jazz clubs or a house or nice streets or something - anything non-mainstream and non-touristy.
If you want to participate, I'll ask a mod to sticky a post and you can put them up there. Today's the 6th, so let's say that these should be done by the 8th of July, a Friday.
Keep images at ~30-40k or 500x500 px.
Max limit of 35 images
Now, you'll have to use your judgement on this. I understand that there may be some places, like here we have the Museum of Modern Art which is both a local attraction AND a touristy one, so for things like this sure you can include it especially if it's an interesting building or area. What I'm looking for is a snapshot of what an average resident of the city you live in would encounter. Again, for instance, I don't EVER go anywhere near Fisherman's Wharf - I would never include that as a high point of living here I think it's atrocious, personally. I would, however include something like the Metreon/Yerba Buena area since it's a place that's widely visited by locals as well as tourists.
Anyways, that's it for now. I don't have prizes or anything, but I figured this was an extension of the sticky thread we had asking where everyone lived, this is asking WHY you live there.
If you don't have a place to host images, let me know I can host.

I hate this town, I've also never eaten at 3rd street deli despite living here for close to 3 years. Tampico is pretty good though.

Never been there
I also enjoy going to the burger king in Marietta when I'm heading home from Athens...I like to flirt with the really ugly girl working the counter cause she gives me free rodeo cheeseburgers...like the only place left in existance where you can find them is Marietta.

Theres some decent looking girls at Burger King early in the morning, if you want the real uglies though, theres this 500 pound woman who works the Mcdonalds near the highway on the midnight shift. Ugly as f**k.

Haha I'm never heading home from school during the midnight shift. Everytime I go in there during early hours there's always some girls highschool athletic team in there tempting me with their jailbaitness.
I tell ya what though the drive from my town to Marietta is the most mind numbing experience ever. Ohio Rt 7 is so f*****g incredibly gay that everytime I drive it I have to think that I might be enjoying myself more if I were sticking my d**k in the oven. Two lanes from Steubenville to Marietta...absolute f*****g b******t.

Depends on where you are, portland is pretty much like seattle, in the eastern parts its more severe in winter, if you stay in cities like eugene or portland you wont get any extreme hot or cold.

portland is warmer earlier and gets slightly less rain i believe.
but the city itself is amazing. I've never stayed in a more enjoyable city.
