I have to admit it, WoW seems like its going to be the total package in terms of what players want out of an MMO.
I still think they should have made it based on Starcraft, but beyond that the game is just so tremendous.
And it has the appeal that UO carried, which was that you can recognize lands, and characters in the game from previous Warcraft titles. The first time I got to meet Jaina Proudmoore I was so thrilled.
There's something for everybody, the tradeskills are well done (if not perfect) and is very useful. I can't wait till PvP is balanced. Even now it's a lot of fun, sure you get killled a lot but there's nothing like finding, running down and beating the shit out of a dumb orc.
Anyway, just my 2 cents.

You seriously don't have DAOC flashbacks? Tradeskills are exactly the same
The spells system is pretty much the same. I went in with an open mind and saw DAOC with warcraft gfx. Maybe I missed something in the 20 levels I played but I don't see where all of this best game ever crap is coming from. I diddn't see anything new and I saw a ton of crap I have already played.

After EQ, I went through an "MMOs suck c**k" phase where I stuck to FPSs strictly.

it's not DAOC. If by casters cast spells, melee hit, priests heal, and there's different factions, then yes. above that, it's way different. WAY less downtime than EQ and DAOC. There's rarely enough time to get up and pee. quests are fun and imaginative. the interface is ez and intuitive. The game is maybe half done content wise and is well above and beyond most released games. There's 3rd party interfaces that work with it. A staff that listens to balancing issues. A decent and improving balance between PVE and PVP. A choice of grinding exp or questing. an easy to do trade skill system. every thing i'd want to have in a game. It's F U N. EQ wasnt fun for the most part. not on the level that wow is. daoc was something to do for a month or 3 while eq came out with new expansions.
If there's something you have in mind that would make the game leaps and bounds better and different than any other MMORPG then by all means spit it out. Blizzard will be happy to add it in if you are right on. My guess is you just didnt get out and see the game enough beyond 2-3 zones and are looking at the whole game as such.
I'm lvl 45 and still seeing new zones, creatures, dungeons.

Ok so it has less down time (read easier and more arcadey) and has a customizable UI? I ran to Every horde land I could without dying too much. I asked the question what does WoW have that makes it the ub3r game you fanbois fap too so much? Loot is boring Daoc style every thott bot profile I look at looks exactly the same. Granted it's beta but I wanted something amazing with all of the hype it's generating. I went and played some WC3 RPG scenarios with a friend and had more fun than I did for a month of casual gaming in WoW. Some of my friends are hooked on it but they haven't played everything out there like I have. I look at a game and can tell people everything the company stole from other games and what's new.
The quest sysem is nice but I want drawn out quests with interactive charachters. I want joe the orc to lead me too a secret cave of baddies and help me fight them off. I would like storyline during the quest given by NPC's not just when i return the items they ask for. I had flashbacks to SWG of "kill 15 soandso's" at the crossroads in the horde lands. The one nice quest I did was the shamans fire totem just because It was epic style where you did many steps all in the same are and were constantly fed story and lore along the way. It was much better than oh noz the planestriders you fought at level 1 are much bigger now and must be stopped! please gather me 7 planestrider beaks. Which is the norm up to level 20 barring 2 or 3 quests that are the "please go to the camp of guys and retreive my box of lewtz thanks".

there are many different types of quests. Some you do follow people and do stuff with them. some you release pets and they find stuff and you loot it. some you shoot cannons to open up doors. One is get a bear trap and put it on the ground and trap a bear then train it. one is like indiana jones and has a little city and you put the staff in the ground and energy comes up from the ground and opens a door.
I like the versatility. Sure there's "go kill mob x and get loot Y" quests. but there's so many other variations.
EQ is kill mob X, get drop. that's all. I'll explain a mid level encounter that's way different from anything in any MMORPG i've seen.
You get to a boss. He is a statue. You push a stone that activates him. The object is NOT to kill the boss right away. He shoots electricity out of his hands. When that beam hits one of say 60 of his guards, they awake too. you job is to kill all of the guards as they become active. then kill the boss.
there's puzzle quests. end game style items you'd expect in other games, early in game.
ANother thing they do nicely is character balance. EQ listened to whiners and it RUINED the game. Casters in eq endgame had more hps and ac than warriors of non end game guilds. Casters in eq end game had more ac and hps than clerics for the most part lol. In wow, mages for example, have AWESOME nukes. some utility spells. but very very very little hitpoints and armor. they do have a chill line which slows attacks. but without this mages die VERY fast. they are casters, they SHOULD. no way in hell cloth should be any where near equal lvl plate.
It's just a well balanced game the way a game should be. fun, fast, adictting and entertaining. You can solo as any class if you want. You can get a group most of the time as any class too. You can level from 1-50 solo if you wanted to with no problems. You can do most quests solo if you really wanted to.
it's not for everyone, but no game ever made is. This game you can tell was designed for the casual and hard core MMORPGer that wants to have fun and keep it fun. I dont think many EQ people that played for over a year or more can say that when they quit eq, it was "fun" It was more of a chat system, at least for me. Look for groups for hours, grind exp, chat with friends.
