That just goes to show that being the dictator of a nation really crushes your political canniness. That guy was so transparent and insincere that its almost funny.

Personal favorites:

Denying that he lost the Gulf War. Funny... I recall a declaration of surrender being involved there.

Hussein voicing his respect for humanity and that no nation should be an aggressor.

Him demanding that the 1st President Bush be addressed as "Mr. Bush" and saying how he respected him, yet he tried to have him killed and the day before had his local paper refer to current president Bush as "The son of the snake".

Also, I'm highly disappointed in Rather. yeah he was trying to be respectful, but that was a pretty damn softball interview. He shoulda asked tougher questions and pressed him on some of the points. Like the aggressor thing for one. And how he'd rather have all his people die than go into exile.

Hell yeah I'd ask him. Rather knows he was safe as a kitten there. Hussein is pretty naieve on how to speak, but he knows disappearing a big name reporter just ain't gonna fly. Plus he expects people to actually believe the b******t he's spewin, so he wants Rather to get out.

I do wonder at the stuff that was edited how. How many really quality rants by Hussein did we miss?

I was thinkin how cool it woulda been if rather had shot him in the head. all of a sudden hell would break loose.. and then there would be all sorts of cool made for tv movies.. amd all the great puns!!! "Saddam had a Rather upsetting day today"

Next on Fox "Dan Rather: Reporter by day, Vigilante assassin dude by night"

"Rather: Portrait of a renegade"

oh man.

that'd be so cool. picture him with a red bandana on. wuwu go dan!

I guarantee Hussien had reviewed and approved every question that Rather asked him before the interview or he wouldn't have aggreed to it. I'd like to see Bill O'Reily interview him, he'd tear him apart.

I really would love to see a debate between the two, put it on pay-per-view and boost the economy a little lol. Now I'm not saying Hussein is right and Bush is wrong... it's just that one is a stammering fool while the other is not.

He's been in power this long because he's the most power-hungry and ruthless guy in the middle east, and nobody has had the guts to take him out. Not because they're afraid of him, but because they're afraid of the disapproval of a bunch of weak-kneed europeans. That doesn't make him some sort of genius.

Regardless, nobody here has given Sadaam an IQ test. It's just a case of a petty liberal taking every opportunity to take a shot at Bush, no matter how ridiculous it is.

Since when does not liking Bush make someone liberal? I've never voted liberal in my life actually.

I'm just drawing my own conclusions. Not everybody that is anti-Bush is a 'petty liberal' lol.

So explain how you came to the conclusion that Sadaam Hussien is "10 times the thinker Bush Jr. is".

I can easily change my statement to "petty Bush hater" if that fits better.

a jewish school mate from way back said he wasn't very bright, but he was extremely charismatic.

now why is it that all evil dictators aren't very bright, but they are extremely charismatic?

'10 times' isn't exact, you know Wink

Needless to say, this was the first time I really saw Hussein speak and was actually impressed. It seemed like a rather (no pun intended... maybe) relaxed interview and he was at no loss for words and had no trouble explaining himself through the translators. This is one of the world's worst dictators, and although relations with his country and ours are blown to hell, he gave a nice interview with one of our journalists.

Now the guy obviously lies and puts his own spin on things, we all expected that much, but at least he didn't look like an idiot. He's keeping his cool much better than the 'other guy,' who likens all this to one big game.

I'm no Rather fan, but I was actually pretty impressed with the interview. Rather looked pretty scared to me and I was surprised that he had the balls to ask some of the questions he did. I mean, this is Sadam Hussein he is talking to, Sadam has no compunctions about murder, torture, pretty much anything.

But yes, Sadam's BS was very amusing - clearly the guy is a total megalomaniac, ie he thinks he is Iraq, 8000 yrs of history, the cradle of civilization is emobodied in his person. Funny how he claimed to have won the vote of the Iraqi people "unanimously".

I think this was a desperation ploy by Sadam, he is genuinely worried that he is a dead man walking. I read an interesting article that said he kept Rather around for about an hr after the interview and questioned him about the the true feelings of the American people, were they really behind Bush and the War. Rather told him, yes Mr. President, I'm afraid the majority of the American people are...

a) It doesn't take a great deal of intelligence or political savy to become a dictator. It does take a lotta charisma and an incredibly decisive ruthlessness. Further that interview was HIGHLY edited, and with the proper editing you can make anyone look and sound intelligent. I wonder how much of that was CBS editing and how much was Iraqi editing.

Also, an intelligent & savy person just doesn't claim to not have lost when they signed a surrender agreement. Hussein is use to dealing with cronies and yesmen who will believe his shit, and being the ONLY voice on the air where people get no opposing view point. That was the single most obvious thing from that interview.

b) Akronn, please keep under estimating President Bush. Underestimating one's enemies is the best way to get defeated by them.

c) Rather's questions. They were most assuredly all scripted & submitted beforehand. Hussein had time to prepare his answers and have people help him with'em if need be. He left script a time or two on followups, that was readily apparent, but he didn't do it enough. Or if he did, he just didn't show it.

d) O'Reilly would have been awesome for the interview, but prolly would have resulted in pistols at dawn or just the Iraqis not releasing the tape. Note, the Iraqis allowed no CBS equipment of any sort in there beyond Rather's personal effects.

e) Yeah, Rather did look a bit nervous, esspecially when he asked unscripted questions.

LOL I said the same thing to my wife after watching that, man Oreilly would have been great for this, but he'd probably get himself shot =p.

Clearly Sadam picked Rather as a perceived "friendly" journalist. Still, didn't think he did all that horribly.

Bah, if Bush wouldn't arm wrestle Mullah Omar, or duel him mano-a-mano with Uzis, or whatever the hell it was, he won't debate Saddham. Actually he'd probably have had a better chance with the Uzi and the old guy with one eye.
