How about a section where 1 of these or both happens
1) a section where long standing links or commonly requested things could be. things like antivirus.org or goatse  or things like that. yes, we have the search function, but if there were a list of links that someone could look over now and then, that'd be kind of cool. it might be hard to go back and get all important links, but would be pretty ez to do it from today forward. I'd hate to see topics moved, but copied would be nice. the bad part is that there's no good automated way to do this. would have to be a hands on thing.
2) if someone is good at PHP and or mySQL, they could go and read teh DB and dump all URLs posted and dump them in a big list. would be interesting to see them all. maybe not so useful, but then ago, maybe so. 1 select statement done properly could return all msgs with URLs in them, a nice chop function could remove all links. then just spit them out to a file. run an update program now and then. to go a step further, sort them into types: jpg/gif, mpg/avi, mp3, torrent, etc,etc
the idea is to get a history of important things one can look over. maybe a useful link, or see if somethings been posted before, or find a pic of someone that you cant find in search.

greatest threads would be threads that owned but died.. where as hot topics brings good current threads from general and kills them.

Nope, not at all similar.
Hot topics was all of the multi-page threads currently getting the most attention. After they fizzled out there were moved back.
This would be a collection of the greatest threads that people usually bump after a while, stuff that is not currently getting attention.
Googlisms would be an example of a thread that goes there, even though I don't think it's the best thread ever it is a more memorable one so i would put it there.

It would be nice if someone did develop a list of URL's that everyone could use from our community. You never know you might find something that you would have never found on your own.
