|
|
|
So I have SBC dsl (Pac Bell) and I told the lady I wanted a router so I could be on with both of my computers. She directs me to their website and the only router I can use from them is some 350 dollar job.
Anyways, what kind of router can I get from like amazon.com that will do the same thing without 300 dollars in ripoff? Are they all the same, or do I have to get a certain one?

Anything from Linksys will work.
I use Earthlink DSL, when I asked them if I could use a router with their service, they directed me to their website which told me that I'd be charged an additional $10 a month for the service. I went ahead and bought a router anyways, don't even pay the $10 a month and get access just fine on both computers.
Worst case, if your ISP is really anal and use your MAC addy to identify you, Linksys routers have an option to clone your pc's MAC address and fool the ISP into thinking it's your computer.

errr also
When i had 2 computers on the same internet they were on a shared connection thing.
I had a cable running from Ethernet cards. It worked fine but main PC has to be on or you cant use the internet on the second one.

you know whats sad, you went to the trouble of covering up the real URL with a fake Amazon URL, just so someone might see the stupid gay picture.

Since this has been resolved, there's no sense in throwing out specific models or anything... but as a general rule, don't buy accessories from your provider, Dell, Gateway, etc...
Their prices are easily double what you would pay in a store or on an online marketplace.

That's true. I bought a little linksys "router" from Bestbuy several months ago and it's been perfect (and cheap).
I put that in quotes because the little home linksys routers (and similar) function more like a switch/hub than the actual router, since most people do not have a home network large enough to need to break up broadcast domains.
