Whoever moved my thread to the games section, the post was made to find out how to burn and install a game after downloading it from r00tus' server.
But anyway...
Repost:
EDIT: Battlefield 1942 was up on r00tus' FTP server a week or so ago, but just noticed last night that it got taken down, Faerdal do you think you could put it back up so I can d/l it? (It was under "Faerdal's game depot", so I'm assuming you're the one who uploaded it. Or anyone else that has it to upload, please do
Also a couple questions about the version that was on the FTP..
1) If I got a cd-key for it, would it work online? Or is it just a cracked single player version?
2) Could someone post a URL to a d/l site for the program that I'm going to need to burn it to a disk (I think all I have right now (as far as burning programs go) is just one that lets me make music CD's and data cd's...do I just burn it as a data type of CD? Just put all the dl'ed files and burn it, then just insert into CD-ROM and install? Or is there more too it?
Kinda put several questions into #2, but you guys get the idea...
edit: The last time I burned a game to a CD that I dl'ed online was "Black and White", which was a while back, and even then I think someone walked me through burning it and setting it up.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks[/quote]

Battlefield 1942.
It was in "Faerdal's game depot" folder I think.

as far as it working online - depends on the game..........which game I will tell you right away
I am assuming it is in .bin and .cue format for a game?
If so download CDRWIN
www.goldenhawk.com
burn using the second Icon I believe - it will ask you to load the cue.
do it and burn it no problem - just burn it at the slow 1X speed on the demo version if you don't care about cracking it

The game is BF: 1942, and I'm pretty sure I remember seeing it in .bin and .cue format (I think)
So all I have to do is load the .bin and .cue files and press which button? The first 3 buttons on the top row are "Record Disk", "Backup Disk", and "Extract Disk/Tracks/Sectors."

1st button - record disc works
then it will want you to load the Cue and hit start burning or whatever it is
I am not in front of it but it is pretty simple
and search www.astalavista.com
for the crack to play online

Do I need a seperate crack to play online?
Or is the version that was on r00tus' FTP the full version, and all I would need is a CD key to be able to play online?
as far as searching that site goes, didn't really get anywhere, ended up just going to a bunch of different sites asking you to vote 2397 times before they let you in the DL section, then won't even have Battlefield 1942 anywhere...

I'm new to downloading and burning games onto a CD...
Once I d/l the files from r00tus' server, and burn them onto a CD, and install the game, won't the game be running from that CD? What is the crack for?
I just dl'ed a crack for bf42 and all it does is make it so that the CD isn't required to be in the cdrom to play.
But, if I'm burning the game onto a CD...isn't the crack not needed?

ok first off what format are the files in?
.rar files? or are you downloading the bin and cue directly?
well first there will be a CD KEY simply just to let you even get into the game which is quite normal, but that CD KEY likely can only be used once for online play since MOST games register that number and do not let another user online if you are using their online method of playing the game.
If you are using gamespy or something to play online then no worries at all just use the one the game comes with

/shrug. Not sure exactly, BF42 isn't on r00tus' server atm, I'm pretty sure when I saw it a week ago I remember seeing .bin and .cue files, not sure if any .rar files were there too...

Yeah I know the purpose of a CD Key, I figure once I get the game downloaded and installed I'd be able to find someone that never plays their copy of bf42 and paypal them a little cash for their CD key. That way I can play online and someone that never does will get a quick few bucks back ;p

Not sure what you meant by this, isn't gamespy just something to use to find games? What's that have to do with needing a CD key or not?

ok if you saw bin/cue files likely he has already unrared the game and made it easier for you
Gamespy is like a host of servers and such for games so it wouldn't be connecting say to the server of the game manufacturer if that is how they have their online gaming setup.......

if it's not on the server anymore its cause rootus deleted my stuff
i have 150+ gigs of games and apps that i could upload, but he only has 40GB of space on the FTP or something. unfortunately i don't get primary access to all of that so it's his decision what to keep there~
