|
|
|
I installed Norton Anti Virus 2004 on my 1st pc just fine. Then I tried to install it on my 2nd pc, but a message comes up saying "this product code is already registered".
My friend takes the same cd installs it on his pc just fine.
Question, how does it know I already installed it on another pc???

Presumably it's going out to Norton's site to check?
*edit* oh nm, I see it just won't let YOU install it on two machines. Beats me. Maybe a previous version was registered on your machine and an entry in the registry is confusing it?

It's weird, we can install it on our first pc's, but can't on our extras. Could it be because they are networked???

If neither one of you can, then yeah, probably. You could download a packet sniffer like ethereal onto your PC and look at what data it's sending out. Couldn't do too much about it though, unless you had a firewall app that could block those packets without screwing up the rest.
What if you power down the machine that has it already installed when you install it on the second machine? And maybe reboot the machine you're about to install on so it won't remember seeing it on another PC?

You can install it on 2 machines, but cannot run them at the same time on 2 machines.
