So if I want to pull all my dvd's to my hard drive, or copy them to another disk...i'll need a dvd-recorder? or can I just do it with a cdr. if so where do I get the prog.

I think either way you're going to need to compress them. You can burn to a CD-R in VCD or SVCD format. Splitting one DVD up between multiple CD's will help the quality a lot.

I'm not completely positive, but I dont think you can make exact copies of DVD's with DVD recorders yet. I'm thinking blank DVD's won't hold as much stamped DVD's.

Either way though, the only software you will need is Nero, and obviously a burner for whichever medium you use.

you can rip all your dvd's with a dvdrom using dvd decryptor for dvdshrink
you can then watch them using something like powerdvd directly from the hd

Dual layer baby!

You can't make an exact copy (same bit rate and/or resolution) but you can make a good quality copy that really on a standard tv there is no difference with.

kay, in other words, because I have a cdr, and use nero, all I have to do is rent a pron dvd and rip it an i can watch it?
