I read somewhere that knowlage in these fields proves that reality as we know it is an illusion. That we have no free will.

I ready a quote that no one truly understands it.
Does anyone know anything about this and could tell me wtf. or give me their perception of it?

You may be thinking of the argument that once we understand the brain as a chemical/electrical system, it's hard to see where free will comes from, since it would appear to be deterministic: given the current state of your brain, a specific stimulus should elicit a specific, predictable response, i.e. free will doesn't exist. A current counter argument is that the brain relies on, and effectively amplifies quantum mechanical effects, so that its output is non-deterministic.

Although that seems to say that free will is nothing more than randomness, albeit randomness filtered through the value system that's been built up in your brain. It's still not as satisfying as what we think of as "true" free will though.

I don't know about the free will bit but life is pretty ambigouse when it gets down to it. We are basically a collection of electric clouds that are agreeing to be together bound by the weakest bond you can imagine filled with billions of times more empty space than any real substance.

Every moment is comprised of choices and on a quantum level it is theorized that every concivable reality is being played out in a parallel universe. The point at which the divergant realities are happening can actually be observed. There is an experiment whereby under the right conditions a single laser point can be show to co-exist in 2 places at one time. The noodle cooker is that each reality is shaped by user input and there free will. So if you decide to get your morning tea or coffee after you read this or after the next post will determine 2 diffrent realities for this universe.

I've taken quantum and relativity. Special relativity is pretty easy to understand. After reading a couple hundred pages of general for leisure though, I started to get confused. I don't understand wither general relativity or quantum mechanics to any significant degree, but my very limited understanding of quantum mechanics tells me the opposite is true.

Median, ignore the above posts. Look here:

Scientific American

That is a link to a recent article that's roughly 6-8 pages on your topic. I think it should have everything you need in the way of information and quotes from relevant experts (i.e. not the brain surgeons who post on this board)

*shoots 50 people*

If I have no free will, then how can I be morally comparable?

I liked Sinrakin's explanation.

Anyways, is thought just electronic impulses in the brain or is it something else? I can make myself "hear" songs and voices in my head, those are memories.
