Well that is half true, the multiplayer is EXACTLY like Q3A. Personally I wish they had stuck with the Quake2 formula all the way through to the multiplayer (instead of using Q3A multiplayer). To me Q2 DM was so much more enjoyable, not as fast but it was more steady, And the Quake 2 Rocket Arena mod owned ;p

Ah, I honestly hadn't even read into the Q4 multiplay. Remember running 64-player bot matches on Tokay's Tower with my old comp and just going nuts at how hectic it got.
