So I'm thinking about getting this 65" Sony Projection TV, but I'm not sure yet. I have heard that playing video games on them f***s them up. Anyone here know this for fact?
I would see about LCD (plasma suxx) but all they sell at the NEX is projection, and I doubt I can find a place that will ship something as large as a TV to my address here.

Unless its real high end Sony, I'd look for another brand. Where is 'here' that you can't get something shipped?

the CRTs that projectors use can be burned in by an image
(say, the HUD on a video game)
so yes, if you have a really really high end projector and you dont want to f**k it up, dont play video games on it 24/7
a video game every once and a while shouldnt do anything but constant play with some HUD always in the same part of the screen will burn it in and f**k up the projector

Anything sent here has to be sent USPS, no Fedex or UPS or anything. I can't even order speaker stands from bestbuy because they are too large to send here for some reason.
The only other large TV they have there is a 55" samsung

Samsung has been making some real, real nice stuff. Especially their rear projection DLP models.

ok ok ok Geesh LOL
yup Samsung DLP is about the nicest one out there atm.
STAY AWAY FROM SONY!
ignore the hype on the LCD/Plasma flat panel, they're a waste of time and money in a big way.
If you've not had a 65" tv before you won't miss the size difference with the 55"...it will still be amazing and you'll be very happy with it in the long run.
Forget the DVI interface cables, waste of more money!
As far as shipping, except that it would be beyond exorbitant cost wise, you should be able to get something shipped from the US or Canada thru a private carrier, as long as you contracted them or had someone do it for ya.
The speaker stand issue is b******t from Best Buy...we ship world wide all the time and speaker stands can go thru regular mail....if ya need em let me know and I'll see what I can do about getting a set sent to you from work or from one of our European affiliates.
Don't think I can help ya much on the TV thing unless you were interested in a projector, then I could sell you one of the ones we carry:
http://www.sim2.com/frameset_domino.htm
here's the international site for the same company:
http://www.sim2.com/index.php
what else do ya need?
oops the video game question.
The old style video games is what would damage the CRT type tv's....things like the DLP handle games so amazingly well it's well amazing hehehe. There's so much going on in the frames on games now that burn in has a very slim chance of ever happening. Considering DLP is what most large corperations use as their multi-media solutions and for their displays, it was made so the burn in doesn't happen.
Granted if you leave a game paused on one screen for a week straight and never move anything you're SOL...but even then ya still might be OK

Thanks Tam! I will definitly stay away from the Sony 65". ( I was going to have to remove the rails up to my 2nd floor housing to get it up there anyways).
I will check out the exact model of the samsung 55" and checking back with you, if you don't mind, before I make the choice.
Thanks again for the info! Thank all you guys, I don't know shit about high end electronics.

Did you guys have a 2 bedroom or a 3 bedroom?
I got a newly rennovated room, which I'm told by others, is bigger than most housing they've seen.

I recently bought a Mitsubishi Diamond projection tv, 65inches of pure orgasmatron.
Crystal clear picture (at least with DVD's/Games, f*****g satelite sux ass), and after you spend about an hour or 2 fuddling with conversion lines it looks like a movie theatre but smaller .
We play games on it all the time, the whole "burn into your screen" thing is only if you keep games on pause in the EXACT same spot or have HUD's like someone above me posted on it for hours and horus on end. Turning it off every hour or so to get a drink and p**s negates that mostly.
Definetely reccomend this one if you could get it shipped out

I wouldn't mind looking around at different models, but I would much prefer getting one from the NEX here, cause I can put it on laway and take it home, without the hassle of a credit card with interest and all that jazz.

Sony is, quite literally, trash. For having a brand name, they have an amazing ability to make generic product-level shit.
Samsung is the way to go. Bought a Samsung flat panel 42" for my apartment and have never looked back. It's f*****g incredible.

Yep. It's funny, you get this idea drilled into you that Sony is good, because they used to be good, and they do so much marketing, that you sort of don't notice that the last three or four Sony items you bought were junk until someone points it out. And then you're like "Come to think of it, that DVD player died right after the warrenty ran out, and the new one could hardly even read rental DVDs with the slightest scratch, and the cordless phone never worked right but they said it was because my refrigerator was interfering with it which sounds like b******t, and I do have to keep the volume kind of low on my receiver because it has so much hiss, and they're all Sony products"

Or my favorite...my roomate has been through 4 PS2s, whereas he only bought a single Playstation from the original run.
My release-day Xbox is still tickin' away.

Why do you need a car? you can walk to work right? sure it's 50 miles but you COULD walk there.
I mean, why need clothes? fur works right..
No one NEEDS a 65inch TV. it's a luxury i can afford and enjoy termendously.
Just like your fake girlfriends.
And no, i dont have that.
I have 5 computers around me, and a 40inch tV in the computer room.
the 65 inc is in the livingroom where my REAL friends come. And we watch fake girlfriends on TV

One reason is because I'm tired of squinting when playing multiplayer games on my consoles that splits the screen in 4, like counterstrike or mario kart. It gives me a headache.
Another is because I want a widescreen TV, and I want it big enough so that i can sit on my couch and see it just fine.

It's still two to a room in the barracks, unless you are an E-5 or above, then you get your own room. I moved into housing about 2 weeks ago, I have a fairly decent sized living room.

I am. At every base, overseas or not, there is an NEX or Navy Exchange, similar to the army/airforce PX. It's like a commissary but it's a department store, not a grocery store.

oh... how does your family like Iceland?
Did you know that linguistically speaking, Icelandic is the least changed of any language spoken today? It's been postulated that, barring new words like "airplane" and "automobile", Leif Ericsson would have little to no trouble communicating with present day Icelanders.

They have adjusted ok. Took about a week to get used to the constant sun, but they sleep when it's bedtime and wake up normally now.
Another thing about the icelandics, is their unique system for last names.
Take Leif Ericsson. His father was Eric. Eric named his kid Leif, hence Leif Ericsson.
With a chick, if her dad's name is Eric, and her name is Helga, her name is Helga Ericssdottir.

When I got to Iceland in 90 they still had the curfew. We had to be back on base by 8:00 pm if you were E-5 or below. I didn't even bother leaving base for like 6 months after arriving. I was busy playing softball, football etc and working 12 hour shifts.
My first time off base was the day after the curfew went away and I went camping for two days. hehe.
The all night sun isn't too bad. Just have the habit of staying out too late and then realizing what time it was.
Of course the winter was pretty much always dark. Amazing how lots of woman would get pregnant during that time.
