You have no idea how competitive the higher levels of Scrabble are. It's not chess or poker quality, but it's about as popular as backgammon.

Scrabble has been a professional game for a long time now.
See Word Freak for more info. (great book)
I'm excited to watch it on espn. I'm a big scrabble fan.
The best players in the world aren't native english speakers. In fact some of the top players don't speak english at all.
think about that.
