Thousands of years from now, long after we have absorbed all the smaller, annoying little countries. Long after the world war with china that we will win. Long after the middle east is cleared of all muslims and turned into the worlds largest dump. This USA and President Bush will be remembered for putting a man on Mars and opening the solar system to American exploration.

An American on Mars.

This is a great time to be alive:)

Unless they find a way to get rocket ships to work off of gasoline and Texas pride I don't see this happening under Bushes plan.

I wonder if it's just a ploy to fight the perception that he's the "anti-science" president.

bush shut down a ton of carborators that would make cars run for 50 miles per gallon+. Other things of that nature I have a friend that keeps track of most of it.

Yeah it is pretty funny. Moral conservative/fiscal liberal makes for huge government.

As per my predicition, Bush's budget for next year slashes the projected (not including increased tax revenues) deficit in half by slashing social programs. Yay!

One un-manned "flight" to Mars costs right up under 1 billion dollars.
1. Send a few more things to Mars. price? many billion
2. Build a "station on the moon" Price? no idea, in plural billions.
3. Send a few people to live on station. Price? yes, in the millions/billions
4. Do an un-manned flight from moon to mars. millions
5. Do one flight with people. millions/billions?
6. Shove the flag into the ground. $9.99 for flag
7. Celebrate.

now. wouldnt most people prefer those billions spent on something they will one day benefit from? thought so

the idea is to invest in our children's future, not to invest in our future. If you run a country trying to achieve the best result for a short period of time, then your country is going to fall.

blah blah blah....even without the war on terror, bush has increased government in record proportions. He is a good conservative.

If the dems ever figured out that they should campaign on bushes spending record, and not the war in iraq, they could possibly win.

and do honestly "believe" that people will MOVE to mars....to LIVE? do you understand what that means? no nature WHATSOEVER...limited supply of everything...cant go out without a suit on that weighs 100 pounds. get a f*****g grip if you really believe it will happen. just because its possible, does not mean its worth it, nor that it will happen.

Wow. Sounds like somebody is upset over the fact that his nation can't even build a car, let alone conquer interplanetary space travel.

then teach your children how to create wealth, not how to steal it from someone to support neat feel good programs.

when you hate so much that you can't pick your battles, and hate so much that you alienate the few people who share your ideas, why are you surprised you're bitter.

Every system needs a back up.

I like the idea, I just don't think Bush is the guy to do it, not in contrast to the policies of the past.

now, if he had gotten elected with this platform and made steps prior to 9/11 this would be a diffrent issue, but it's not.

Didn't he just make it a reelection platform?

Election and RE-election are 2 separate things.

A reelection still requires a platform, though. We're entering an election year and he laid out his plan for NASA over the next 4 years.
