After I spent days working on a PP presentation at home in Office 2003 Pro, I come into work with a burned copy today, load it up, and watch in horror as all my cool stuff--doesn't work
I saved it as a PP95, 97-2000 presentation because we only have Office 2000 here at work.
The only other Office suite here is XP 2002...can anyone tell me if my stuff will work properly using that app?
I really don't have time to redo this..meeting is Wednesday.
Thanks, guys

Not sure, but the "cool stuff" may not be part of the document itself, it may just be linked in off crap on your disk on your PC (like images on a web page). If that's the case you either need to burn all those images/files/whatever to the CD or find some way to tell Office to embed them in the doc. (Assuming that's even what the problem is.)

Hmm...I will ck that when I return home. I just had a look on MS's site...I think (if I understood what I read LOL) that 2003 is backwards compatible to 2002, but not beyond due to completely different working of the Animations and their sequencing.

if you save the newer effects in an older version that doe snot have those effects then they (the effects) will not work in the older version

Take Khrath's advice and try openoffice.
I realize MS products are easy to use and standardized, but please consider openoffice anyway. Sure, Microsoft takes great pains to ensure backward compatability with previous versions. I am certainly glad they don't intentionally break older software with new file formats just to force businesses and consumers to upgrade. I can see why the software is so popular. It has nothing to do with marketing, FUD and money.

In powerpoint 2003 go to 'File' --> "package for CD' Its everything you need to toss a CD in a computer wheher it has powerpoint or not and view your presentation.
Open office is cool, I use it at home but not at work.

OpenOffice runs like total shit on my P4 2.4ghz 768 megs ram running Fedora Core 3. I don't know why, but it takes upwards of 30-45 seconds to start. It does handle several things better than MS, such as importing a tab-delimited file, but crap like nested bulleted lists is pooful. My company sadly just converted from a full Linux shop to Windows due to OpenOffice sucking basically and being incompatible with clients.

I've already requisitioned for licenses to update my software on my machine. Everything is 2000 and older, even tho the machines are about a year and a half old.
That will give me XP and Office XP. I can't download software on my own--even though I have administrative rights, the CS people insist on doing it. Their line is if *I* install it, they will not be responsible for anything that happens to my computer. If they install it, they will update the second hd that contains a (mirror?) of my original setup. I can't update that disk, apparently. I can only save data to it (or some crap). That's what they told me to use for a backup. I have never seen a more f****d up system of doing things--in a tech school, no less!
I will ck for that package to a CD feature. Not sure why I didn't notice that before. As to OpenOffice, I want to take a look at it, but if it is temperamental, I will likely pass.

It's one thing if it's software that other people at work are using...at least one of them can troubleshoot it if I can't....Everyone runs Windows and Office, though
