Anyone check out the comercial flash shot teasers of the new Battlestar Galactica mini series on Sci Fi coming in December? Reports are that if it does well, they will make a regular series out of it.
Any thoughts?>

I'm extremely disappointed in the direction Ron Moore is taking the series, it's like he didn't even listen to the fans. The new Galactica series is going to be a cheap, **** up rip-off of the original using a much younger cast. I can understand not bringing back all of the old players.... but no Apollo? No Starbuck? Hell, in this new series, Starbuck is going to be a woman and Adama is being played by Edward James Olmos... an Hispanic!?!
I'll watch it out of morbid curiosity, but I'm expecting major blowage like Voyager and Enterprise.

They would have been better off taking the chance on an entirely new series, instead of dusting off an older one and polishing it with a new cast.

What else do you expect ? It seems everything is going that way these days.

Holy COW! Starbuck is gonna be played by a woman? Edward James Olmos is Adama!?! So what you are saying is that they are going to be using the same characters but different actors in a different direction??? That blows! I thought they might had done a continuation of what happened after the original series ended or something like that.
BTW, I saw a flash shot of the guy who was the warden from Shawshank Redemption. He looked pretty important looking but it was only a 2 secs shot. Anyone know his role in the series?

They already replaced Starbuck and co, don't you recall Galactica 80? They arrived at earth, the main characters were grown up kids of the original characters.
I also dunno how it can be done more cheaply than the original. In that there were only like 3 Viper explosions and 4 Cylon Raider explosions, all taken from the original film. The series was a cash in on Star Wars anyway, it's not exactl filled with merit.

Pretend Galactica 1980 never happend, that's what alot of fans do. It was an attempt to continue the series with a lesser budget, because believe it or not, the original ran $1 million an episode back in 1978! The only good Galactica 1980 episode happened to be 'The Return of Starbuck,' and you can guess why it was good 
Galactica was indeed a cash-in on the Star Wars craze, but it was actually a top 20 show for most of it's run. It wound up ranked 24th it's first season, which isn't bad at all. However, it was just too damn expensive at the time... the special effects were produced by the same group who did Star Wars (they would later be known as ILM) and came with a heavy pricetag. So exactly why the extensive reuse of footage? The effects house was let go halfway through the run, so everything past the 13th episode or so was stock footage.
With effects cheaper than ever, sci-fi shows today regularly churn out episodes for less than what Galactica ran some 25 years ago, and that's pretty much why they're trying the series again. The whole premise wasn't given much of a fair shake the first time around.
