no, but several of my friends are being asked to go to argentina for a couple weeks to train their replacements, so that they can come home to being unemployed.

ya know...I wish I would of had my job outsourced.

I'd be back in college by this fall.

The company itself....well legally I can't say much about it at the risk of losing my job....but....i'll put it this way.

The company gives us a nice employee discount on their service, but I pay about $50 more every month just so I can use SBC for my local, long distance, and dsl.

MCI is gonna get bought within a year anyways, not like it matters.

We had layoffs at my old employer about a year ago, and needless to say the physcological impact was huge on the people and not in a positive way. So I know times must be tough right now. I only heard about it because of the techs came running into the NOC/TAC at New Edge Networks where I work and told us and we were all like what the f**k? Are you s******g us... but alas he wasn't Sad I don't deal with the guys who do transport (UUNet) or local telco lines since you guys aren't a bell, so I doubt the people I work with over there are affected (atleast I hope not). It just f*****g sucks man, f*****g sucks.

Actually, MCI bought MFS which is a local telco, but they aren't as big as a bell.

As far as psycho impact....dude i've been through 10 layoffs at MCI in the last 5 years. I'm to the point that I pray that I'll get cut everytime they have a layoff, just so I can walk away with my severance check, and live off unemployment while I go to college for free off my G.I. bill, and have money left over because I'll be going to a community college.

And yah, they sending the Install and Provisioning department to Argentina. So if you aren't a million dollar or more customer, I feel f****n sorry for you, because you have to use the f***s who dont speak english everytime you want a new ckt, a change, or a disconnect.

They've consolidated all of their 24/7 maintenance shops into two centers from like 20. One for voice, one for data. The company is setting itself up to be a nice and neat package so that it will be easier to sell off.

MCI wont be MCI much longer, they've put alot of effort into consolidating the entire company so it'll be less of the clusterfuck that it is. You can't take a company, and buy 8 other companies and expect it to function as one entity when you take no measures to intergrate them.

Right now I have probably 20-30 different logins for different systems just to be able to do my job and get all the info I need, because not one portion of those companies that got bought up by Worldcom have been intergrated. It's like working 8 different jobs at once, and I hate it.

All the menial tech jobs are going over seas. It's just too attractive. I've been seeeing this happen for a while now.

On one hand I see that these are shit jobs and should go away to allow us to be more innovative in what we do.

On the other hand I see people I know get shit canned because someone over the border do the same jobs for pennies on the dollar and it p****s me off that corporations have no loyalty to these people.

Personally I think American jobs should be American jobs but as a US worker we should know that we are on the cutting edge and to be adapting to this. It sucks hard core but we need to be smarter than the global economy.

Still doesn’t help the poor schmo who has a house payment and 2 kids to worry about now that the job they did is over seas. My immediate circle hurts me more than a republican addenda, sorry.

I was laid off from MCI, Hewlett Packard tech support in Chandler AZ. That building used to be all in bound support, Albertson's, deaf tele relay, other usefull services. Now its outbound telemarketing.
