It's not exactly a mandate from the masses. 25% of the eligible voters in this country voted for Bush. The other 75% live under a government they didn't vote for. This is called "democracy" in this bizarro world.

Saying 75% live under a goverment they didn't vote for is technically correct, however it is a baseless judgement in the real world. Eligible voters who don't vote, don't count. If the popular vote was used as a simple measure of who is elected, neither Gore or Bush would have made the cut. Its a flaw with the system.
JFK was elected by a margin of 303-219 electoral votes, yet only had 119,450 more popular votes, out of roughly 70,000,000 total popular votes. Tell me that one doesn't sound fishy. I'm looking for the state by state breakdown for that election.
