What do we know about these ATM? (I mean, what is generally known, I obviously know next to nothing.) I heard somewhere that the charr will be a playable race in GW 2, is that true? What about the rest, assuming there is any? How many new races will there be anyway?

As far as I know, four in total. And yes, the charr is one of them. The others are to include the asura (tiny long eared people who live underground), the norns (a race of shape shifters, changing into the form of a bear), and the sylvari (some kind of plant related nature spirits).
