So it's my boyfriends birthday, and I had a friend make him a business card using photoshop. Now I haven't heard from him in a few weeks, and I'd like to have them made by sunday. Is it something I could do myself?

I know it's a stupid question, but I've never used Photoshop, we only have it on the Mac right now. I was thinking about getting it (from a friend) for the PC, but I'm not sure if it's worth it.

It's not that hard, but I'm tempted to say if you have to ask, probably not.

Depends on your ability to focus. The learning curve for advanced fetures is kind of high if you have a low attention span. If you can grasp the concepts immediatly you could learn what you need in about 2 hrs. Within 1 hr. you will do what you need but it will take that other hour to start over with what you have learned and do it right.
To really get the program dedicate 4 solid days.
If you are li9ke me you pick up a bit ehre and there through the net, self taught and it would take you about a week and a half to understand it. But then my brain gets sleepy pretty fast when it's being overcome with new information.

If you want do something pretty plain, you should probably be able to figure out Photoshop.
But if you're getting into heavy graphics building and manipulation, you're probably just going to end up making the card look like a drawing from a 2nd grader.

It's just a business card, right? Some text, a little logo, maybe a line graphic or something. You could practically do it with Microsoft Paint.

Yeah your best bet is to look for a business card maker program. Photoshop is kinda the all in one graphix program and just jumping into will be a terd. If you have just a little bit of extra cash, Kinkos can custom design business cards for you and have them back to you withing like a day or two. (i used to work there)..... Also Business cards are 2" x 3 1/2"

These guys are here in LA and do a bang up job for cheap because so many actors want color graphic biz cards. Look at the stock. I use them.

But this is going to Print, so you need to understand the differences of just designing something and designing something that has to be printed. Photoshop can do the job, but it's not the best for print related IMO. Use Illustrator since doing vector graphics is much easier and that is really what you want. You need to learn what resolution you need to creater the file at, what bleed is, crops, etc.
Now, if you have a company do the printing for you, depending on them, you might get away with just a "design" that they recreate.
