So I have been having an ever increasing amount of stuttering in game as I run through the city, couldn't figure out why it was so bad. Then I looked at my drive and it's fragmentation... wasn't insanely high but enough that warranted an immediate defrag. So set about defragging my games drive over night. Played it last night worked a bit better for sure.

I have no problems at all anymore after moving to Neriak Server.
But, there's a bunch of factors that causes it so hard to move around in the city, the huge buildings, lighting, land lag. Try to set the game's graphic settings to extreme performance and try again while in the cities, that should help

I have same prob, but I blame ram because I only have 512.
The hard drive is constantly spinning, why I have no idea, the game doesn't even use a fraction of the ram I have as it is, so it shouldn't be paging the shit.

Yeah, I have 512 as well, blame alot there... on extreme perf it works good unless I'm in NFP then it runs like crap. Before I defragged though alot of shit was runnin poorly.

That's about like mine exactly. There's a major memory leak I think when it unloads a zone, the actual Freeport city zones (NFP, SFP, EFP, WFP) accelerate it.
I can play forever and be fine if I've zoned no more than 2 or 3 times since I logged in... I don't think it unloads the zone properly and so you constantly fill up on old zone data. Which wouldnt' be bad if that same data that's there helped you while you were in the zone that's "stuck" in there.

A person I know is experiencing the same type of memory leak. His kicks in about the same time, 5-6 hours.
Defrag did not help me much. I did a hard drive optimization and the game lag improved a little. I finally popped in more ram (bumped it up to a gig) and no lag now.

thats interesting
i took a look at my defrag and everquest2.exe (that tiny exe file) had nearly as many fragmentations as some movies i have on my hard drive
i defragmented
i'm yet to test out any difference it may have caused

I have 1 gig of ram...lately after a couple hours i get a HUGE memory leak, and it can take me up to 3-4 minutes to zone, it's highly annoying. . . I'm hoping they do something in the next couple of patches to fix it.

EQ2 has a mem leak I belive.
I've seen it take up to 1.8gb of my physical ram. This was rather annoying and I was supprised my machine didn't start crashing. Although I was only getting about 12fps.
This usually happens i've noticed when I do once of two things.
1) Play with the graphic settings to dial in performance vs eye candy (which on my machine I can afford a lot of)
2) Alt tab between full sceen and Window modes to look up quests or what not.
This leavs me to belive that the problem comes when EQ2 has to load or unload textures at different resolutions. This problem would become more so with people who have lesser machines. (1280x1024 rs, 800 render distance, shadows off (i don't like them), most lighting on, most settings towards top end, 10 detailed models)
That being said. I CAN run EQ2 on my laptop just fine, abit I only have 3 detailed models on my screen at a time, I can still run it. (1024x786 res, 400 render distance, shadows off, lighting minimal, most settings lower, 3 detailed models)
For reference.
Main PC:
p4 3.06ghz /HT 800mhz FSB, 2gb DDR400, ATI 9800 Pro 128mb, WD Raptor 10k RPM 36.6gig HD, SATA 150.
Laptop:
IBM T42p ::: p4 1.8ghz 2mb cache, 512 DDR 400, ATI Fire GL T2 128mb, 60gig 7200rpm.
