where have I been?

just checked out some motherboards that support this ...

... wtf is Pentium D and why haven't i heard anything about it?

I read up on it and it said something about supporting 64 bit operating systems ... so is this the intel 64 bit chip?

It is listed from 2.8 to 3.2 ghz .. and the only special "features" i could find are supporting 64 bit operating systems and protecting against buffer overflow hacks

so is this the nextgen intel chip or is it just some retarded crap intel put out for kicks (much akin to the Intel Celery processor)?

I'm pretty sure Intel didn't put out the Celeron "for kicks". I imagine they did it to grab up some of the market that was being taken away from them by AMD's lower priced chips and to make money for the corporation.

Both of which were successes.

To answer the original question...Pentium D is Intel's dual core procs. As far as duallies go, Intel made a good product actually, alleviating the heat issues of previous P4's. Also they are priced 300-600 bucks for the non-extreme flavor. AMD's dual core (X2) will be released publically end of month prolly. Yea they perform alot better (except at true multitasking where Intel has always excelled) but they are pricey. 550-850. Anyway, Pentium D is dual core.

Afterthought: and yes, they both support 64 bit OS's
