Today I met someone who has used a computer for 12+ months (browse web pages, chat on line, update her resumes, email people, etc). I sat down with her to copy some music to her machine and she could not do, nor had ever done, the following:
* minimize a program
* maximize a program
* drag a window around
You know... you don't have to be "smart" to learn things. The simple act of experimentation and general playfulness is often enough. At first I thought, "Well.. hm.. maybe she has never had the need to minimize, maximize or drag wind... oh who the f**k am I kidding."
Anyway.. her body is hidden in a dumpster in St. Albans if anyone would like to go hug it.
How the f**k can anyone operate any device for 10 to 20 hours a week and still not grasp the basic, most primitive, simple concepts of it? I guess what's Im really wondering is - How can they let themselves wallow in a withdrawn, blind, disinterested shell of existance?
Don't kid yourself and think this this kind of behavior begins and ends at the keyboard.

You'd be amazed at the amount of people that cannot grasp the concept that windows and modern cpu's are capable of running multiple applications at once.

Necessity is the mother of invention. May be she just never needed to run multiple apps at once.

Xammer you silly goose. You're talking about a female who chats online. If you've never seen this in person, it's pretty funny. They don't receive words-per-minute, they receive "New male chat partner windows popping up" per second.
Just ask someone like Zoetrope or Celestra :p

As you get older, you will realize that the majority of the population has this problem to some degree.
Most people are stupid.

I think the 80/20 rule applies almost everywhere. You know the one... "80% of the work is done by 20% of the people, 20% of the work is done by 80% of the people." Also applies to a bunch of other stuff. I guess any activity that requires self-direction, motivation, or a work ethic in general will only be done by 20% of the people involved in it.

Can anyone tell me where the "any" key is? I can't seem to find it
My four year old knows/can do more on a computer then most of the teachers I work with which is a very, very sad state of affairs.
