Up at college there netowrk sucks balls and is so restricting. It is almost impossible to log onto any form of on-line games unless you are one of the IT kids who works in the comp office. I've posted on this forum before so those who have read it know i'm technologically challened. I know I need to open a port in order to run EQ or even that f*****g steam program for HL2. I know the ports that EQ requires to run, and I am pretty sure I know how to open them. However, it seems I need to get the "IP address of the computer hosting this service on your network." Is there anyway I can find that out from my laptop in the dorm by chance....?

Uhh.... you can know which ports, and what machine is your gateway but that isn't going to do you much good if you don't have access to the machine so you can open the ports.

You could do some kind of tunneling if you were fancy. If they have your internet filtered before it ever touches your dorm, as is likely the case, you are more than likely f****d.

Online games and P2P sharing have been an issue at alot of campuses because so many people playing them and downloading fuckloads of music/movies/porn can really eat up bandwidth.
So alot of campuses have all that shit blocked. You're pretty much f****d.

If they are blocking ports at the network egress points, you are going to have to play tunneling games to get out, or ask the network admin to allow the connection.
Btw, tunneling with persistant, latency sensitive applications will make you WISH you were baby jesus IRL crying with an Occulis buttstick in tow.
