Let me preface this by saying that it pains me to post this. Im sure I will suffer much ridicule and mockery. =)

I used to see people doing DDR at the mall and laugh at them. You wouldnt catch me doin that shit in public for a thousand bucks.

Fast forward........My friend Amber calls me the other day and wont shutup about DDR. After making fun of her for an hour she says shes comin over with her PS2 and dance pad. Laughing im like...wtf ever.

errr..so she comes over and I had a blast. =/

I bought it for my xbox and I must admit its killer exercise and addicting as hell. I still would never do this in public nor admit to anyone I know IRL I play it. I can tell you fools cuz most of you are bigger nerds than me and I dont know any of you irl. =P

So, I see that they make regular pads that move all around the floor, then they make this pad that is enclosed in a zipper thing and on a surface that doesnt move, AND they make a metal pad that weighs like 60 pounds. Which one should I get? Currently im using the cheapo pad and I dont like it. I went and got the one that has like puzzle pieces of garage flooring material in a zipper thing and thats better....but doesnt seem like it will hold up very well. Have any of you used the metal ones?? Are they worth the extra bank?

Also, if the metal ones are great where do i get one? My gamestop only has the cheapo ones. Same with like best buy etc.

Opinions please. Oh and feel free to mock me. Had I not tried it id prolly be mocking me too ROFL.

My friend bought the same thing, just has the cheap pads...

I suck at it but it's fun for sure. Her daughter and her boyfriend kick some major ass at it though.

Edit::

So obviously I can't answer your question as seen in my response

Play on it for a few hours to flatten it out, and staple it to some plywood. Works great.

Damn that looks like a piece of furniture. LOL I dunno if I want something that huge with rails in my living room. =/ Im currently using the redoctane ignition pad. I like it but i dunno how long that foam stuff will keep its shape. Are there any metal pads that are flush to the floor without handles and shit? So when im not using it i can just slide it under the sofa or something??

Also, how the f*k do people ever get past the light setting? Hell I cant even do alot of the light ones yet. Granted Ive only had it two days but when I looked at the heavy setting I just laughed. It looks impossible.

BTW this game made me realize how f*****g white I am. LOL I look like a d*****s doin this.

As far as the metal ones go the cobalt flux seem to be the best, my friend has a set and they are nice.

Seriously it's a pain. You could probably beat me though...

There was a version 1 on taht same site that didn't have the rail, maybe that'd be a bit better?

It's great cardio/aerobic. Pick it up if you have a console... it can be pretty fun.

The game stop pad is 30 bucks here in California. This is good if you don't want to play songs on Heavy. The pads with the foam in them are about 50-100 bucks depending on what brand you get ( RedOctane Ignition pads are 100 ). And metal pads are 200-300. The best pad you can own is a Cobalt Flux. www.cobaltflux.com
Next best is Red Octane metal pad, but it breaks easily, which is why Cobalt Flux is recommended. DONT BUY A METAL PAD OFF EBAY THEY ARE FUCKASS SHIT.

It all depends on what difficulty you want to play and how good you want to get. Get a gamestop pad first, once you get to Heavy and want to play for fun / cardio / whatever every day, then think about a Cobalt Flux.

Edit - One more thing. You asked whether the metal ones are great, and yes they are. Cobalt Flux owns my mom + dog meat taco from jack in the crack + a chocolate yogurt from TCBY with butterfinger topping. Their company should pay me for this.
