John Kerry claims to be for abortion and against it because.
1) He's Catholic so he's against it and
2) He's a politician and believes for whatever reason that his public duty requires him to be for it.
Now in San Francisco (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=2026&ncid=2026&e=2&u=/latimests/20040508/ts_latimes/officersmurderdividessanfrancisco) , this liberal has taken the opposite stance. The district attorney refused to seek the death penalty in a case because she's personally philosophically against it, despite the fact she was supposed to seek it (and I'm sure she took an oath to this effect).
Now this whole thing seems very backward to me and I would like an explanation. Congressmen are supposed to be elected to make laws based on their personal philosophy. They are not there to enforce the existing laws. DA's are supposed to enforce the law. They are not there to make them based on their personal phiosophies. Do liberals have everything backward?
