So, what is this calculator thing I've been hearing of? Is it SpeedSim? Coz if it is, I don't understand how you get it to do some of the things that are mentioned… As far as I can tell, SpeedSim just simulates battles, not building expenses and times and the like?

You're thinking of O-Calc. Check out o-calc.com. It lets you calculate the costs of everything, and it's real easy to use, too. Fairly self-explanatory, really. Personally, I've found O-Calc far more useful than SpeedSim, but that's just me.
