my hubby had to go out and buy a shittier (slower) vid card because of that 4 bit eq2 crap /sigh.

Yeah, hopefully they'll have it fixed soon.
Its either an EQ2 issue or nvidia driver issue..
So much mixed info everwhere I can't make a determination myself

Ever stop to think that maybe SOE's dev team can't code an engine if their lives depended on it?
If a 6800 will run Doom 3 which is coded by, without a doubt, the best programmer in the game industry without a hitch, then it must be the engine that's bogging down the card and not the other way around like you're suggesting.
The SOE dev team is not known for making spectatuclar game engines, they're known for making crap. Sorry to rain on your parade. :/
