I still don't care. He's probably just apologizing because of the backfire, that and he' s probably afraid to leave his bed.

well you have to admit the only reason he has received any media recognition as a 'hero' is because he was formerly a celebrity. I don't like the word hero anymore personally, because a real hero ends up dead and unnoticed.

Then dude should have just said he was upset about the amount of media coverage on the guy, but instead he flat out told him he deserved to die for being a Rambo wannabe.

yeah that is pretty harsh, I never read the article. I think the greivance was about typical media distortion of what a hero really is. I mean this guy sounded honorable and it's great that he had the balls to die for his country, but I don't really equate martyrism with a heroic act.

like that Jessica Lynch b***h. I mean what did she do to deserve the title of hero? She got captured like a weakling? No, I think she earned her heroship by being attractive white female with blonde hair that was taken as a pow like a weakling.

No, what you morons do not realize is that he gave up a 3 million dollar contract to fight for what "he" felt was right. Do you understand that? He had been to the pro-bowl in 2001, one of the few good players on the Cardinals and was set to be rich for the rest of his life, yet he went out there and put his a*s on the line.

That is why he is receiving all the coverage. In my personal opinion, he deserves it. Alot of whiny, lazy, complacent bastards out there who have no right to downplay the man's sacrifice.

I think a hero is someting different for each person. Some think Micheal Jordan was a hero.

Some think Hillary Clinton is a hero.

A lot of people think this guy was a hero, and I agree with them. I don't think I could have been unselfless to give up an NFL contract to join the military for the pay we get, during a time of war.

he made a personal sacrafice to do something for his country? Sounds just like every single other young person who enlists in the military to fight for what they believe in.

And how many millions did he have in the bank already? You're building up what he did to be something that it wasn't. He gave up money to fight for his country and he died, is that the criteria for a hero to you? I'm not saying he isn't a hero, because maybe that is a hero to you, but to me the standards for a hero are higher.

If Bill Gates sold all of his microsoft stock and enlisted in the military and died, would he be a hero to you?

Now that you mention it, i'm surprised they let him sign up. If you are so rich they don't want you in, i mean if you win the lottery or something you can get out of your contract.

I asked about it once and I was told it was for a few reasons, 1 being if your a millionare, who the f**k are you going to listen to? And hostage reasons, things like that.

Your standards are higher, wtf?
I mean, the guy gave up his career and something he loved plus a shit load of money to fight for his country.
I consider that ALOT, you have some f****d up standards imo =/

I have no idea how much higher you could set your 'hero' standards, Lauren.

No matter how much you want to try to twist the facts, he made a huge sacrifice to join the military. Before you try to argue about how much he already had, you only make the case stronger that he is a hero. He sacrificed a great deal more to join than your average recruit.

A small handful of people are capable of playing sports at a professional level. An even smaller percentage are capable of being all-stars. How many of them would give all that up to join the military (and the special forces no less) to fight for something they truly believe in? I'll tell you how many...none since 1979(?) I believe it was.

People always sit back and talk about how things should be. People should care more about their ideals than money. People should be willing to work and sacrifice for everyone's benefit and not just their own. Then someone comes along and finally bridges that gap between what should be and what is. He is a hero by any standard. It's your loss if you fail to see it.

I salute what he did. but the media coverage is absurd. he was a soldier and he did his job. it was his time to go so he went. he isnt a hero in my book, you want a hero then look up a PJ named Jason Cunningham. that is a mother f*****g hero. jessica lynch was a little b***h who was put in a fight she was trained to do and she couldnt even f*****g shoot the damn rifle. she isnt a hero either. as i said, look up Jason Cunningham. that is a real f*****g hero.

This was one of my favorite quotes in this thread

Quote:

i am in the military and most of my co workers agree with me. He only got coverage because he played football. i dont care how much money he gave up. I dont care what he had done while playing football. What matters is he did his job. He payed the ultimate sacrifice and i salute him for it. But the media blowup is absurd. Where is all the individual media coverage for everybody else who has died?? the media says ( 13 died... 2 died...5 died.. ) where the f**k is their media coverage. There isnt any because they " didnt give up as much " anybody who says this...f**k YOU.

/rant off.........for now

EDIT : if you want to talk about money in the bank. i have over 1.2 million in the bank. so f*****g what. you think me or any other " average joe " would get the media he gets? no, we are donig something we believe in just as he did. His sacrifice is no greater than every other man or woman who has died due to conflict.

The guy was an exemplary person even before he gave up millions of dollars to join the army.

He had a chance to go to St. Louis for 9 million and he turned it down to stay in Arizona. ARIZONA.

And Bill Gates uses unethical business practices, but Bill Gates makes the lives of millions better through his work in Microsoft. And he gave a billion dollars in charity.
