Yes i get to vote when that Queen of b*****s (Hilarry Clinton) runs for President in 2008. Of course if she wins that would be the end of the world because she would prolly fire me from my job (Army).

Lets all thank the Democrats for cutting spending on the Military.

Zab, seriously, just ignore Maelstrom or insult him. Don't bother debating anything with him. I can dig up BillyBot and you can argue with him to get about the same responses.

Regardless, that wasn't why I wanted to post. I agree that the only reason for all this media coverage is Tillman's football career. Despite that, it doesn't take anything away from the man. Nor does it make anyone else in the armed forces less of a hero for their service. Judging from his refusal to give interviews or discuss his choices with the media, I imagine he felt the same way.

I can understand being upset over the media coverage that he receives while so many others that deserve it as well go unmentioned. It is unfair but the people do need heroes. They need to see stories like this. The media typically broadcasts only bad news, it's nice to see them show that there are still decent people in the world.

No, what you morons do not realize is that he gave up a 3 million dollar contract to fight for what "he" felt was right. Do you understand that? He had been to the pro-bowl in 2001, one of the few good players on the Cardinals and was set to be rich for the rest of his life, yet he went out there and put his ass on the line.

That is why he is receiving all the coverage. In my personal opinion, he deserves it. Alot of whiny, lazy, complacent bastards out there who have no right to downplay the man's sacrifice.

And how many millions did he have in the bank already? You're building up what he did to be something that it wasn't. He gave up money to fight for his country and he died, is that the criteria for a hero to you? I'm not saying he isn't a hero, because maybe that is a hero to you, but to me the standards for a hero are higher.

Your standards are higher, wtf?
I mean, the guy gave up his career and something he loved plus a shit load of money to fight for his country.
I consider that ALOT, you have some f****d up standards imo =/

maybe, of course it's not like I would ever air these opinions irl though. Realpoor is one of the few places you can say whatever you think w/o getting beat up or grudgingly hated.

I have no idea how much higher you could set your 'hero' standards, Lauren.

No matter how much you want to try to twist the facts, he made a huge sacrifice to join the military. Before you try to argue about how much he already had, you only make the case stronger that he is a hero. He sacrificed a great deal more to join than your average recruit.

A small handful of people are capable of playing sports at a professional level. An even smaller percentage are capable of being all-stars. How many of them would give all that up to join the military (and the special forces no less) to fight for something they truly believe in? I'll tell you how many...none since 1979(?) I believe it was.

People always sit back and talk about how things should be. People should care more about their ideals than money. People should be willing to work and sacrifice for everyone's benefit and not just their own. Then someone comes along and finally bridges that gap between what should be and what is. He is a hero by any standard. It's your loss if you fail to see it.

you can think and feel however you wish to nuld. But, giving up money and being martyred for something you believe in doesn't make you a hero in my book.

Lauren, or should I call you Jim, you are a f*****g moron. The point is he DID NOT NEED TO JOIN THE MILITARY. He felt obligated because his family had a history and he felt it was his duty to enlist and protect his country.

Sounds like a 'hero' to me. But I guess he would have to chop off his d**k and pretend to be a female before getting a "hero" tag from our resident tranny moron.

yeah ok, or you can just ignore every single legitimate point I made and result to character assassination. While we're on the topic lets all talk about Alerik's penis and how it is hopelessly inadequate and how he has joined the "I will never get laid in my entire life" club. You know, since his small penis and his club affiliations obviously make all of his points invalid.

By Alerik's logic, then any doctor who gives up a lucrative practice at home to treat USA troops in Iraq and subsequently dies is a hero.

You know, scrolling through and reading all of these posts, most (not all) of them share a common cohesion amongst them - the glorification of money in the American lifestyle. It makes me sick day after day that your wealth and personal earnings determine you as a character.

On the Tillman subject, he is a hero who died for his country. The thing with him is, because he turned down his NFL contract that makes him more glorified than someone else who serves into the military and dies for their country. In my eyes, they are both equal.

Bottom line in all of my reasonings is, it doesn't matter how much money you have or could be making, you're not better than anybody else. If you think you are, then I pity you. That's all I have to say.

No, not really he doesn't. At least not from the point of view I've been arguing from. Money does equate to status in the US. People try to vilify this attitude continually but there is really nothing wrong with it. Regardless, this isn't the place for that argument.

Tillman is different in that he is someone that everyone knows. He is exceptional in the fact that he turned down a great deal of money to join the military. It's not about the money per se. He made a rare and selfless decision to serve his country. Does that make him any more of a hero than anyone else that dies in the military? No, it certainly does not. It's worth pointing out that he knew that.

Despite that, his story will be told and should be told because people already admired him for his original choice to join in the first place. The fact that he died for that choice simply drives the point even further home.
