Nicole Kidman has signed on to star in Invasion, German director Oliver Hirschbiegel's remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Production Weekly reported. Kidman will play a woman who uncovers a conspiracy in a small town where aliens begin taking over the lives of the inhabitants.
The film will be the second remake of the 1956 SF thriller, which tapped into McCarthy-era fears of communism. Warner Brothers produced a remake in 1993, directed by Abel Ferrara, and will be producing the new version as well. Invasion, written by Dave Kajganich, begins filming October.
