The first thing that pulled me to the eve Online was the free trial buddy program. I think that this was the first thing I started thinking about this game and after a while I decided that this is the game for me and I stayed with it for all this time. I heard something not so log ago and I would like to check if this is true. No more free Trial period in Eve Online?

I am sorry to be the one to break it to you, but you are right, there will be no more free trials for this game. I guess they think they don’t need any more new members and they just left this program out on the open. I think that this was not a good plan at all and I hope that other games will get more members then will this in the next period and this may make they change their politics. I hope this will happen, because I was one of the players who used their free buddy program.

I actually heard they are losing money on the game (surprise?) through the free trial system as well as just the general income vs server fees. They posted about it a little while ago themselves, saying they'd give members a month's notice to cancel payments.
I bet it will be a few months before they cut back some more....or shut down.

free trial was a great idea most people want to see if they like a game before, pay to play. its a shortsited idea ccp are not the best business people or they would not have nerfed everything and lots huge numbers of players.

I think people were probably using this to circumvent having to pay... Having an alt (even a >14-day old) running around can be quite useful!

It really doesn't suprise me that EVE is losing money. Unlike WoW, EQ, etc. they aren't monetizing their expansion packs. I'm not a big EVE follower, but there have been at least three expansion packs rolled into the game as patches that Sony or Blizzard would've sold as expansion packs.

Well eve is also a niche market type game. Look at all the otehr MMO's out there and the big difference is risk. I went back to WOW for a few days coupel of weeks back and couldn't believe how much people whined and moaned about a death. In a game where the only cost to death was a run back to your body people felt hard done by. That is a sector of the gaming world that is unfortunatly very large and cannot stomach a game like Eve.
So I hope they can find a way to make this work without increasing costs but with every release they are increasing the load required and can't really handle much of an increase in player base. As it is there are queues at peak periods so unless they are going to start having alternate servers I don't see an increase in subscribers as a reasonable option.
