This game is ridiculously difficult. It took me 10 tries just to beat the first boss, and I ended up using all 5 of my elixers and my come back to life scroll. I can barely beat the first 2 horses, and then 3 more keep coming!
I f*****g suck at this game, and almost punched a hole in my door.

The game really isnt hard until you beat it once then play on the next difficulty level. I've found that people saying its difficult the first time through havent upgraded their weapons at all or they try and play it like a hack and slash instead of...well...a ninja game. =P

DMC3 is cake on Easy. It's hard as hell on Normal for the first few levels (on one's first play through), as you have one weapon and no upgrades.
There's also the fact that one can save any time in-game, regardless of the overall outcome, and net some orbs.
Is it hard? Sure. But there are ways of making Dante's life a little easier, especially easier if you don't mind unlocking some weaponry in Easy mode before progressing through Normal.

Same here. But when you unlock a weapon in Easy it transfers to Dante in Normal.
Getting the gist of the controls is a must, even if it is resorting to play Easy; I hadn't picked up a DMC title since DMC1, so I figured constantly dying to the reaper in stage two was telling me I needed to brush up a bit.
So I unlocked some weapons, get his life up a bit and stepped up to the plate. Did I have an advantage? Sure, but having that on your side isn't going to sift you from the suck pile to the gamer pile.

I just picked DMC back up (just got it back, a friend forgot I let him borrow it, etc.) only to say f**k it, load up Katamari Damacy and just play, play, play.
Now that's a f*****g fine game.

I have yet to play that game despite all the praise it has gotton. I am currently replaying FFVII so I have a fresh memory for Advent Children =)
