Lip piercing can lead to receding gums and may make the problem worse, say researchers from Ohio State University.
They compared the gums of 29 young adults with pierced lips to those of 29 with unpierced lips.
All participants were about 22 years old, and roughly half were women.
About 41 percent of those with pierced lips had receding gums. That’s much higher than the 7 percent rate seen in those with unpierced lips.
In addition, gums had receded more than twice as much in those with pierced lips. People who’d had their lips pierced for the longest time fared worst. Age, gender, and other factors didn’t matter; only length of time with a pierced lip was important.
The study was conducted by professor Dimitris Tatakis, DDS, PhD, and colleagues from Ohio State’s College of Dentistry. They announced their findings in Baltimore, at a meeting of the International Association for Dental Research.
Tongue Piercing Is Also Risky
Piercing the tongue isn’t a better bet. Tongue piercing has already been linked to receding gums.
It’s not the holes, but oral jewelry that’s the problem. The jewelry rubs along the gum line, and the wear and tear can cause permanent damage.
Besides receding gums, lip or tongue piercings can also cause:
—Chipped or fractured teeth
—Nerve damage or inflammation at the piercing site
—Periodontitis (where the inner layer of the gum and bone pull away from the teeth and form pockets) resulting in loose teeth or tooth loss
Those results were reported in the Journal of the American Dental Association in July 2003.

I quit smoking 3 years ago.
I have no piercings. Not even my ears.
I had my tongue/lip awhile ago, but I took them out. That was probably 5 years ago. All the holes are healed now. Thank god.

correct me if I am wrong, but I have read that nipple piercing in women risks a serious loss of sensitivity, and there is no guarantee that the hole will fully close if you decide to remove it later

2. Tongue piercings look cool, but they're really played out
3. Nipple piercings are just f*****g wierd, my ex got them done and they're a huge turn off to me.
4. At least you didn't mention eyebrow Vek, since that's what I plan on piercing :p
The other 2 piercings I can't stand on women are the nose and the upper lip stud. Both look absolutely terrible and 90% of the women I've seen with them are attracting attention to something that shouldn't be getting any attention :/ Good info. about receding gums though!

I personally love a little nose peircing on the side. Not too keen on the septum one tho

i have had my nipples pierced for almost 4 years now. before i had them done, i had no feeling in my nips. now? yea its a lot better 
women who have had them done report a super loss in sensitivity after having them done, which is why i don't suggest it for women.
breast feeding isn't supposed to be done with them but i've heard it done before, who knows.
as for lips and tongue, who cares. i like people who are different. my best friend has her lip and nose done and it looks pretty hot.
