I don't know if i've seen too many independant films recently...
I'm just curious, what are some good ones? I wouldn't be surprised if they are better than the crap that's coming out of mainstream hollywood/etc ;p

also the actor playing superman looks like the biggest f****t ever. i wonder if they're trying to appeal to the "gay, comic book geek" demographic?

Weird, I just said almost the exact same thing at a dinner party the other night.
I'm a HUGE horror flick fan and absolutely NOTHING has scared me in the least bit. As far as I can remember the only movie that ever really scared me was the original Exorcist. I was seven years old, though.
I liked House of 1000 Corpses although it wasn't scary in the least bit. Ring 2 sucked....the Grudge was even worse.....
I'm hoping The Exorcism of Emily Rose and SAW 2 will be cool. I can already tell that Cry Wolf is going to suck.

It's trend nowadays to not make "Scary" movies anymore.
Horror flicks lately are just really bad storylines with every 5-15 min a badly made up person popping up and a loud noise coming over the soudn system.
you aren't scared, you are startled because you think a bomb went off.
I hate horror films like that, it should be scary because of what you see, not because your brain mistakes someone ramming on a keyboard for "scary" stuff.
It suxors..

Just don't watch the Director's Cut. In my opinion it ruined the movie because they took out the need to think about what you just saw as they explain everything.

Not enough footage to make any call here, I think they are trying to appeal to the emotional / nostalgic reaction of the music.
Unfortunately, a great portion of the current day audience was not actually born when the Chris Reeves versions were out, and they look pretty dated to today's audience...its hard to convey to people now that at the time .. yes that was good special effects .. etc...
With regards to him looking 'gay' ... not sure what ya mean here, Clark Kent / Superman is supposed to be a very clean cut guy, and I hate to say it, but his outfit will never be as cool as batman's, and its not like you can take liberties with Superman's outfit.
Donnie Darko was fantastic, I think it would have done better if 90 percent of the audience was not too dense to understand the flick, however.
I have not seen the director's cut of it...is it really that bad?

Put it this way, Donnie Darko is one of my top 10 favorite movies of all time. If I had seen the DC version before the original, I would have thought the movie was completely lame.

ah, but it's not a "remake"
Story is, Superman has been gone from earth for several years, and comes back to find everything, and everyone, changed and/or moved on.
And the constant fan whining about having a good superman movie.
Looks like they will have to keep whining.
I guess they just can't find someone with the build, looks, and acting skill, all rolled into one.

Hmm.. ok. It didn't look like that at all. It looked like another rehash on the original.

ya, since it's a new movie, to a new generation, they had to add in the background info of how he came to be Superman before moving on with the main movie story.

Horror movies are more humorous than scary nowadays because it's important to get the kiddies in the seats for $$$. Can't make it too gory or it'll get a rated R (which kills movies at the BO), and pyschological thrillers don't do much for teenyboppers.
By the way, 2005 has easily been the worst year for movies in a very long, long time. We had two lackluster movies, Wedding Crashers and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, lock up the top two spots at the box office for the entire month of July. That's really poor. Summer is when Hollywood makes it's money, there should be major releases every weekend... but this year they all sucked.
Thankfully, moviegoers are speaking with their wallets by not seeing all this crap.
