Im lookin to buy a new MP3 player. Mostly ill be listening to it at work for 8-10 hours. Im lookin for some thing hard drive based. Good battery life, and lots of vertual penix. I like the archos AV420 but I think it might be a lil big for easy portablity. The sony one looks neat, but do they still only play their own format, I hear of rumors about there being a firmware upgrade. Also some one mentioned the dell MP3 players to me. Well anyway thoughts? Im lookin to spend 200-500 if its a good player.

They are pretty good. I have a friend with the old big thick one and another with the thin one. Both are very easy to navigate. I'd recommend it.

Get an I-pod. They weigh like 6 oz and go up to 40 gigabytes. They are firewire and work with pc and mac. Navigation is real easy. You can even make playlists in I-tunes that carry over when you update your songs on the player.

You can store other things on it also. Not that it really matters but its nice to have. Theres the color one that dose photos to but that feature sucks unless your into graphics and just have to see a picture with the song.

EDIT: They go up to 60 gigs now. But are on the pricy side. 500-600 dollars for that version.

Not that I am knocking your choice in players but... How do you navigate your play list? I have close to 4800 mp3 on my ipod. I can't imagine not being able to browse by playlist, song, artist, genere etc.

The portable xm one only holds 5 hours of music. I'm not sure how it works but I think you have to record the music to the player while it streams down.

I have a delphi SKIFI 2 in my car. Its great. Lots of variety and works with my home system. But its no good for work. I can't get a signal inside. If you can get a signal that myfi would be great.

In addition to the cost you have to pay a monthly fee to.

http://www.iriveramerica.com/prod/hd/

Check the H320 or the H340

I have one and enjoy it lots! It has way more features then just listening to music. Check it out

or try

http://www.apple.com/ipod/

Have a few friends that use this and its a great audio jukebox. Nothing more to add. Only that i once heard that the battery only lasts 18 months? But i guess they've probally fixed that ages ago or found a way to deal with that.

Good luck on your search

Slimmer and lighter than iPod; 20GB hard drive; records from analog line-in source, microphone, or FM tuner; full-function in-line remote with display; comes with cradle; long battery life; Mac- and PC-compatible.

The in line remote has all the controls, including display (main unit has controls, but no display). You put the player in your pocket , bag, or where ever, and you don't have to take it out to control the player.

To me the best part of the player is the sound quality. I haven't listened to an ipod, but I do have another mp3 player with the same signal to noise ratio, and the cowon blows it out of the water.

The cowon also has very high transfer speeds (in case you want to use it as a portable hard drive) which was a minor factor for me.

Plus I didn't want to be part of the ipod masses.

So you have to have a seperate control? That is my point. That makes them probably about the same weight or more. You have to carry more crap with it. Plus wieght wise you talking 8/10s of an oz. If that makes a diff.

Don't get me wrong Im sure its a great MP# player. I just can't see having to have the extra componensts needed to see the song lists when the whole point of an mp3 player is to be without the need for extra components.
