netflix for life! i've been a member for over 3 or so years now... they have a warehouse in Ft. Lauderdale so i have ~3 day turn aroudn time for movies. i like netflix over blockbuster because it's the lazy man's DVD rental... no lines, no walking, no driving, no nothing. they come in the mail with a prepaid envelope to mail the movie back to netflix. their rateing system on the website is cool... i've seen movies i would have never seen before, and they have a huge selection to choose from. i love the fact that i just have a queue of like 30 movies and i watch one, then there's magically a new one at home a few days later Smile

netflix is f*****g awesome.

i hate driving to blockbuster, looking for a movie, waiting in line, checking it out, then driving back home and f**k returning that b***h.... what a pain in the ass!

and who's responsible for the dvd if you mail it back and it gets lost, the mailman keeps it or it is stolen otw to you? i mean, it is kinda obvious whats in it.

I've had a few movies get lost, I assume it's the mailman taking them. I think in ~2 years I've reported 3 or 4 movies lost and they haven't charged me at all (Netflix). I was getting ready to switch to Wal-Mart's movie service when Netflix raised their prices, but they wisely lowered them back down to $17.99.

As for late returns, with Netflix there are no late fees. You just have 3 movies out at any one time and return them whenever you want. I think you can pay more to get more out at once.

i've had a few lost over time also, you just report it as being lost and then the next movie in your queue gets sent to you. after so many losses (unreported how many is TOO MANY) but they'll either ask you to pay for the DVD or just go and buy the DVD and replace it yourself.

Then there's blockbuster's new policy - no late fees. If you don't return it within a week, you bought it.

I could never put my finger on what I disliked about Blockbuster, but I always felt like they had a "s***w you" attitude whenever I went in there. Independent local stores were way better. Netflix would be good, but with pay per view and video on demand I haven't bothered to sign up.

I love netflix. I can passively wait 1 day for my movie if it means saving 60 minutes of driving. "But my blockbuster is only 5 minutes away" is b******t. Factor in traffic and getting dressed/undressed. God, I hate driving.

Never had a problem with that in the last couple years, and I doubt a mail man would steal a used dvd. That's a major felony, talking 5 years minimum no parole in federal prison.

Happens all the time.

My dad sent me a computer for Christmas in '99. Never got here. Postal service "lost" it.

should have done certified mail with insurance with a computer Razz. They lose stuff off and on, but I doubt stolen is very common. Just opening someone else's mail is a felony.

Although I wouldn't be worried about using Netflix for that reason, I do have to say that the US Postal service has deteriorated to what we used to think of as third world quality. I notice typically one piece of first class mail a month or two that I should have gotten but didn't. I get a couple of pieces a month of other people's first class mail, and large amounts of other people's third class mail. Two or three times a year I'll get a piece of first class mail ten days or more after it was postmarked.

I wonder if email and the internet have killed the post office, or if it was always this bad and I just never noticed.

It was insured. He got the money for it. How do you lose a 36" x 36" box? They steal it, where else could it go? Think about it.

you'd be suprised how many people steal mail, even though it is a felony.

Every carrier is worthless. The company I work at ships anything from small handheld boxes to freight items that go on a pallet. They use UPS, FedEx and multiple freight companies. So much crap gets sent back because it basically gets mauled in shipping. They don't have any concern whatsoever about your goods.

Sorry I was under the impression that Blockbuster now did the same mail-order thing as Netflix... they don't??

I'm undecided still.

I'm still on the fence about RCN vs Comcast for cable internet/tv

-Nah-

It's a similar program, but i believe it still requires that you drive to the store and back to pick up/drop off movies..

Mine was insured for $2k. They wouldn't even honor the $100 computer case they very obviously busted up. They also f****d up my video card and a couple other things.

I vaguely remember something about this. If it was insured and delivered damaged in a damaged package, how did they get out of paying?

And what are those things that look like parameciums (paramecia?) on the Christmas lights?
