I now get the web at work but I have heard veiled threats that they moniter all activity. That just won't do.
Anyone know a good way to spoof an address so that it would show up diffrently on an admin register? Basically I'd like to post on rp at work but I don't want to register thousands of hits.

If you've got a computer always running at home, you could use a VNC connection to it (either over a VPN, or not), and essentially surf from there. It would only show up a single connection or VPN to your home PC.

No Banz... just limit your web browsing. One of the things I do here is do exactly what you are trying to avoid and all I can tell you is.. don't try. Not only is it their legal right to monitor your usage, but you can get in worse trouble if you are caught trying to tamper with it as you are basically bypassing a security system, akin to disabling a fire alarm in an airplane lavatory.
Browse the web at home if you can't do it at work.
As for the VNC idea it may work but depending on how much they limit your connection type, you may not be able to make any 2-way connections. A good way to tell is if you can view any type of streaming media. If you can't, chances are your VNC won't work either.
Oh and.. VNC may put you at a GREATER risk than anything.. since you have the potential capability with software like Timbuktu and VNC to move stuff back and forth between machines, this might be interpreted as your attempt to steal company property.. an even more severe crime. Realpoor ain't worth the risk.
Oh and one more thing.. with the advent of new distributed computing systems, where everyone runs off of one build that runs off a central cluster of machines, those builds are intentionally rigged and they may have software like Timbuktu in view-only mode running on YOU without knowing it. AKA a supervisor can flip back and forth between target computers and view their workstation in a non-obtrusive manner and simply watch what you're doing. That's even worse
-Nah-

I know there is a remote control program, if not Timbuktu then something like it.
I like the idea of a VNC connection, I'll have to dig up some info on how to set that up unless someone knows a good tutorial.

You could installed PuTTY and use it to SSH home. Might take some getting used to, but browsing the web in text mode is 1) really really cheap on the bandwidth and 2) via SSH totally secure and 3) using ``screen'', you can Ctrl-A,Ctrl-N to do the equivalent of an alt-tab in windows. This lets you hide your realpoor window if need be.
I use SSH at work, but only because I like to check my email.
I am not supposed to chat from here but they don't mind me reading web sites & posting on forums. Go figure.

banz, nah speaks the truth on this..
don't vnc or use any remote software..as nah pointed out, that's even worse to do, as it will leave a hole in your work's firewall doin shit like that
it's kinda like saying, "LOOK AT ME! I'm NAKED!" really loud at work, to the network folks
i'd wager they've been watching all along, not you necessarily, but in general, and they're prolly alarmed at what's either being done while on the network, or what's being looked at, hehe
this falls under my job title and many folks have been walked for trying to get around policies like yours..
I typically only surf 2 sites now: this on and my ord site, because of a similar policy. I would strongly advise against trying to putz around the policy, it'd only look worse for you, and yes, it's very possible to have them recording EVERYTHING you do with some of the screen capturing proggies out there..it's like watching a movie, of you clicking away
unless of course you really don't give a shit if you get fired, then knock yer socks off

I had to laugh when they installed a firewall at my last company, and I tried to come here and a big red stop sign popped up on my screen, and it said: | Quote: | | "The site you have attempted to access: www.realpoor.com is forbidden because it is in the category tasteless. Please contact your manager if you need to access this site. Further attempts to access this site without permission will be logged." |
They did pretty much have it nailed...

You won't get around complete spyware type programs, but most IT managers will not implement this unless:
a. They are doing remote troubleshooting of PCs where their tech support has to or wants to be able to guide you through onscreen problems.
b. You have a massively overbudgeted IT department with someone who is paranoid about lost work time.
Otherwise, they are using simple logging of sites you connect to and blocking content to those that are not conducive to a work environment.
In those cases, simply have a friend from an IT department set you up a passthrough proxy from an innoculous website address and surf through that.
Of course, the best policy is to not spend too much time doing non-work related things unless you are the IT manager (*cough =p*)

I surf away with 1000s of useless hits all over weekly.
I don't care if I get fired, hell... it would be a favor at this juncture!

No, it was awesome. Probably one of the best jobs in my life, ever. I got 2 titles under my belt (Check out Moto GP2 for Xbox and PC =) but the commute and the pay was killing me so I had to get another IT job, much closer, with a much higher scale.
If I bank for a while I would consider doing it again. Either that or just get my fix with HL2.
Anyway, new environment, different network. I could say I was just being proactive in locating system flaws. Thanks for the heads up Paco.
