Ok, this ist he mysterie
year ago i get a new PC.
Installed XP pro on it, get my SB audigy EX in, install drivers.
Bobs your uncle, jennie's your aunt, it works fine.
Fast Forward a year later.
Suddenly windows update tells me it has a driver update for a C-Media audio device. I go WTF? i dont have that.
So i dont install it.
For some reason probably insanity i accidentily install it a week later
Now according to windows i ahve 2 soundcards ion my system.
This would make most techie's cringe, but since everything kept working as it should i said WTF and went with it
Now, 6 months later my PC is generally f****d so i decide to reinstall it.
No biggy, BUT after doing windows and it's updates and putting in the ORIGINAL SB DRIVER DISK that i used last time it tells me i have NO sB cards in my system........
Updated drivers fromt he net, same thing......
And now windows wants to install it as a C-Media thing agian
Does anyone have a clue how ic an fix this. Coz i have a headache and frankly i'm almost p****d enough to throw it out the window
f*****g windows...99% sure it's the problem

You've disabled onboard sound from your motherboard's BIOS, right?

When you reinstalled windows, did you do a repair installation or did you completely repartition C drive?
If you did a clean install, I would open the BIOS and reset defaults on your BIOS settings. Disable onboard LAN and sound (assuming you have a PCI ethernet card) and disable Legacy USB support (if you've got a newer ASUS board).
Get the service packs and windows recommended updates. Just to be sure you don't have a seating problem, take the audigy out and reseat it into the PCI slot (I believe 1, 3, and 5 are recommended for sound cards). Download the newest WHQL certified audigy drivers, they're self installing if I remember right.
If that doesn't fix your problem, take it out into an open field with your Louisville slugger and go office space on it.

That's the odd thing....
i have no onboard anything. It's an ASUS P4B533 motherboard.
The "other" audio thing didnt' show up until months after my pc was installed..out of the blue.
I always do clean installs to make sure i dont get driver problems, format c and all that.
I shall check the legacy USB support setting i'm not sure what i have that set to.
I did get alllll the updates first ebfore installing it, but i haven't tried to take out hte card and put it in (seeing as it was working fine for a year). But, it'snever to late to try )
thanks for the input, if it's still fubared i'll be back!

As it turns out there IS an onboard sound card WTF?
You cannot find it in the bios (nor turn anything remotely looking like it "off") nor was it installed or working the first time i got my pc..
so...i'm clueless. Scowering the asus site now for clues

Flash the newest BIOS you can find on the asus page (if you're comfortable flashing BIOS - it's not hard but you can f**k your mobo if you do it wrong).
I can't believe that a P4B asus card doesn't come with BIOS that allows you to disable onboard sound, look for it once more. I'm using P4C-E deluxe... should be similar enough BIOS and I can see what heading it's under if you can't find it with the new BIOS. If nothing else, disable the onboard card with device manager.
After doing that, I would still reposition or at least re-seat your audigy (into 1, 3, or 5 slots) and see if that helps anything. I'd also just use the .exe that you get after unzipping the audigy drivers, windows can suck at installing drivers from a disk.
There is lots of talk about Legacy USB support causing problems in the newer ASUS cards. You should not have a problem disabling it unless you've got an older USB device you still use (most USB are 2.0 now). I personally did not have a problem with it on, but then I turned it off pretty quickly after installing windows. If you haven't had a problem with it in years, I can't imagine it's the actual problem, but it never hurts to try.

Well after wading through the Asus website i found a picture spec of my Mobo...(cant find my manual anywhere ..
Lo and behold there is a jumped for the damn thign
It was set to OFF according to the website, so i put it on the ON position and..it is now off..THANK GOD.
Now the weird thing is i had not had this problem for about a year..then suddenly it activated...what...the..f**k..
I'm still boggled, but at leastit's only seeing 1 soundcard now.
I can manually install the drivers, but Creatives online automated update thing still says "you have no sounblaster cards installed"
Thena gain, it does taht for ALL my pc's so i'm sure they suck at programming
