At this point I don't even mind paying for it, these pop up ads (probably caused by adware/spyware) are driving me crazy.

Looking for a program that can take care of both problems, don't mind paying for it, any suggestions?

google toolbar will block almost everything. toolbar.google.com

spyware search and destroy gets about 95% of spyware. free and google for it

adware from suprnova will get the other 5%

Just installed the google toolbar, so far so good.

I'll try the spybot thing after Nortan AV '03 finishes scanning my PC :P

Thanks!

I have google toolbar + spybot and I'm still getting some nasty popups now and then. Also, my homepage can't be changed - it's one of those cheesy search pages.

I found that the only way to remove a 2020 Search bar from a computer at work was to remove the activex control for it...I could NOT remove it from add/remove programs Sad I removed it via spybot..

Also, spybot recommends a program called spyware blaster...can get the link from the spybot program...blocks insidious planting of b******t on your computer...

Akronn, try http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/index.html

The CWS.realyellowpage variant in particular is daemonic.

Those homepage hijacks are evil. I have used that CWShredder program (from the merijn.org site) to get rid of them when Ad-aware/Spybot didn't get em, but they keep coming back. I think they have something to do with Microsoft Java Virtual Machine.

adaware will find registry entries that are permanently setting your homepage.

Akronn, i had a problem like that a while back. We tried a few things before I finally googled the webpage address. I got a few hits for pages with solutions to the problem, one of them happened to work.

If it keeps coming back, you have CWS.realyellowpage.

It uses a super-hidden DLL to reinstall a secondary cws variant, he provides some tools for finding the file, but you have to reboot in a non infected OS to even be able to see the file to delete it. CWShredder won't affect realyellowpage yet.

Thanks for the advice.

Installed the google toolbar, adaware, spybot search and destroy, and the spyware blaster.

I think adaware and spybot alone removed a couple hundred spyware programs :P
