It really doesn't matter. I would recommend you just start a few characters and level them up to ~10. After a couple you will start to see which ones suit your play style.

Alliance has the prettier low end zones/towns to level in. In terms of racial abilities, horde pretty much is better in every instance (except when it comes to gnomes, who have the best warrior racial in the game: escape artist).

The race you choose has alot to do if wether it will benifit your class, so its best to find out if you wanna be horde or alliance ( I suggest just by wether you favor one of the races looks!) and then once you choose a faction choose a class, then look at all the races race abilities and see how they would benifit your class =]

It all depends on what you plan to do in the end of it all... id say if your going to PvE, alliance would be great... horde right now have the advantage in pvp until 2.4 when racials get taken out of arenas. Horde have some better racial passives tho that will remain untouched with that nerf. Other than that, i would say level a few characters to level 10, figure out which one you had the most leveling, then go from there, if its still hard to figure out, level the ones your choosing between to level 20, and again figure out which one you had the most fun on. etc etc

One tip I wish I woulda got, Roll horde. From my personal experience they have better racials and better players. Alliance has their players, nothing against them (two 70 toons on Alliance) but i wish that they had been horde...i'd prolly still be playing them had they been

I have had the most fun playing as horde. The people tend to be a bit more knowledgeable about PvP and common courtesy. I would suggest to pick either an undead or an orc to start. A very good leveling character would be an orc hunter.

Your best bet is always to try them all out, at low level..and see what fits. Even if you level something to say, 30... don't feel as if you're stuck. If you don't like it, switch. Better to be happy!

Horde, Orc BM hunter would very likely be the easiest for a beginner to learn to level on.
