Okay... I've got a bit of a difficulty here. Dear God in Heaven, I don't know why I'm bringing it here... but considering my recent ownage of Scotland I figured that I could use the abuse Smile

I'm getting ready to incorporate my business and I'm in a bit of a bind. My business is currently called Orion Studios and I've owned the Domain Name of orion-studio.com for a very long time (as well as orion-studio.net). Doing some looking around, it seems that there is already an Orion Studios with a registered trademark for the name... so I'm pretty well up shit creek. Now I'm looking for a new corporate identity and trying to figure out a name with a good solid matching domain name. The domains that I currently own are:

orion-studio.com
orion-studio.net
pandors-cafe.com
realbastards.com
promethiusdigitalnetwork.com (expired)
janusgatetech.com (expired)

None of them apply to a web hosting/design company. As you can tell I like mythology and have pretty much stayed around that area with company names (Pandoras Cafe was an Internet Cafe project that I was involved with that unfortunately folded, Promethius Digital Networks was another web design hosting company that folded, as was Janus Gate Technology). Now I think it's time to move on and go another route. However, with my current state of doing five different web sites, I'm at a bit of a brainwave dead end.

So... how about some ideas? I need something that sounds cutting edge but I would like a mysterious tone to it. I'm at a huge f****n' loss here. Throw some ideas my way and I will love you long time!

Nooooooooooo.... Orion Pictures is old hat, that's why I didn't have anything with the name Orion Pictures, mine *was* Orion Studios which is now some DirectDIVX sound company media place. Nothing about pictures anywhere in my post there.

Seeing that you lived past adolescence definately drops my faith in humanity, on the positive side though you definately make any problems that I have seem far less troublesome. I must thank you for being a good example of a bad example and I shall endeavor to never be a super sized crack captain like yourself. Thank You for sharing, please to be not coming back!

Hmmm... not sure if I should take this a serious suggestion (which isn't a bad one) or as some message for me to slit my wrists Smile

OH NOZ! You must be right! What do you know of my past list of occupations? I think you made some comment about that in the past didn't you? I probably told you to shut the f**k up then too didn't I? Won't bother this time, you should know the drill by now.

Dude, you had like 21 jobs. Your a minimum wage bum, don't waste everyone's time looking for a business name which should be thought of yourself. Go back to making pizza, bird.

No, haven't had 21 jobs. I'll have to correct you there. I'm not *quite* a minimum wage bum, but I must be close since you say so. I did work in Pizza, that's true. Did that for several years from phone b***h to GM. How that has any relevance to my ability to start a successful business on my own instead of partnering with other people who end up bailing because they can't handle the stress of filling out a few forms and opening a bank account. Doesn't reflect on me at all, and I thikn the last time you made some "Go make Pizza" comment you dodged telling anyone what *YOU* do fora living there guru. So what exaclty do you do, have you even held down a job?

Yeah that's an option, actually I was going to get paradox.com years ago but it was already taken. I really want to buy that domain name though, paradox.com. That was my first option for a business name but Orion Studios was second. Here's the kicker though, I found out that the other Orion Studios is just a trademark (tm) and not a federally registered trademark (R). So I can stick with Orion Studios if I want, that will keep me from having to edit the corporate shares that I already have designed, and all the corporate mintes and bylaws. Though that's as simple as a replace macro in a document editor. So, I may just go with the registered trade mark, since it overides the s****y standard (TM).

There are 362 registered trademarks on Orion listed here.

However there is only one registered trademark for "Orion Studios" and it's not in your intended field of business.

I think the business at www.orionstudios.com could get you for trademark violations, even though the trademark is not registered. It really doesn't have to be. If you don't believe me, check out http://www.nissan.com. There is no registered trademark on the Nissan Computer Corporation.

Edit: If you have a unique last name, name it after that. You're unlikely to run into trademark issues and if it becomes big, you could be a household name!
