I refuse to un-install halflife unless im reformating, so halflife is taking up a gig on my hardrive, but I have no steam becasue it is a peice of shit and takes like 5gb for no reason.

Sounds like a user issue. With everything Steam endorses (HL, HLDS, Ricochet, CS, DoD, TFC, DMC, and Opposing Force) and Sven Co-Op and NS, my Steam folder just tops 1.6gb.

Only problems I've ever noticed were occaisional dropping of a server between maps (happened pre-steam anyway) and the complete lack of the built-in steam games (checkers & chess.) What's your basis for it sucking?

Me either, granted it has some bugs, but it seems like everyone just wants to jump on the bandwagon and say it sucks. I really love the in-game server browser, that you can actually use because it doesn't take a f*****g day to refresh. Great for when you just feel like "pub'n" and playing like a retard on random servers. =)
